Twitch Fighting

I was reading about 'twitch' fighting and was trying to work out how to do it with a greataxe.

I assume it's when you do the sideways slash that's the first animation, followed by the overhead chop, which is the second animation, then move slightly to the side and repeat, without following through the full attack sequence.

While playing around with this today, I found that if I jumped and then held the jump button down as I landed, I would keep doing the side to side slash that you do when you're running and holding down attack.

I still have the to hit penalty as if I was moving, but I'm standing on the spot, just swinging side to side. It's pretty fast and it seems to have more dps than following through or doing the 'twich' from side to side.

Is this a commonly used technique?

Speaking in a pre-U5 frame of reference, I believe twitch is slightly faster than spacebar holding.  I mentioned the spacebar-holding method on the forum once and Axer spewed a bunch of numbers at me.  I didn't pay any attention to the numbers or anything else he said (does anyone?), but when it comes to DDO, he's often right.

I experimented a bit, it probably is faster to move, but if you get the timing slightly wrong you lose speed.

A lot of people speak of it, but I rarely see anyone actually practice it in game.
Many also call it cheating, cheesey etc. IMO buying mana pots from the DDO store is more akin to cheating than ignoring that craptastic looking full THF anaimation.

It does take a while to get good at. Took me 4million+ XP to get pretty good at it now. I like it because it is faster, and more interactive. Auto attack on raid bosses is so...boring.

Keep at it, practice on portals too, but they need more intuition since it's harder to see.

With a minimum ping of 300+ I'm not going to bother with twitching. There are a lot of situations where having a cluster of people standing around the same spot kind of makes it hard to see what's going on. I'd have to be able to see my toon clearly to get the timing right.

I have been using the hold jump while swinging style on portals and bosses and the occasional mob, as it's higher dps than following through with the full attack chain. I'll have to see if glancing blows are removed from this style with the new update and adjust accordingly.

It might be better to go back to the full attack chain if that is the case.

For the record I live in Melbourne Smiley

I have to adjust to the slower attack speed on my barb now, which is annoying. I am not sure twitch is going to add much if any dps now.

You know what's interesting...  I didn't wanna say anything on the main boards but jumping still seems to proc glancing blows while twitching doesn't.  I was experimenting a bit out in GH while farming renown and gathering relics for a couple lowbies.  I'm by no means a twitch gaming expert though so if someone else want to investigate...

I just got that impression after you spent 13 pages calling out eladiun for being an interwebs bully when anyone who's been posting on here already knew that.  I mean, he's proud of it and hardly tries to hide that at all.

Please specifiy, North., South, East or West of?

Turbine is a company, not your friend.

If a company you have been loyal to suddenly changes their product so that it either is worse or not even working any more then only a complete fool would continue to patronize them.

Business only understands one thing, the bottom line.

The posters above who have a delusional perception of their relationship with Turbine seem to be suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

Well, I'd put it in relation to Turbine's location (Boston MA).

I think to give an accurate description it would have to encompass all directions.

Jumping only gives your client the twitching animations.  Others (other clients and the server) don't register the twitch.  It has been this way as long as I've twitched (update 2ish).  That's why you get glancing blows on it - you're not really twitching.

Has anyone measured this?

My point here is that this is not definitive... take tumbling, for example.  Remember back in the day, no one could see you tumble?  We'd need to measure the hits over a timed period to firmly establish which end the error is on.
