Within how many levels do you need to be of a quest to get renown in a chest?

And where can I find details on recincarnation?

Gawna, please don't get excited by my questions.

Are you sure slink? Maybe it's just the quest I'm doing. I ran heyton's rest 10 or 12 times and opened 30 or so chests with antir, and NEITHER of us got even one renown drop from chests.

Then I did it on my level 6 pally and I still didn't get any renown from the chests.

If you can get renown from chests at any level, maybe those chests just don't drop renown.

And thanks for the link.

Which quests are good for farming renown?

I read something maybe about some correcting that may have been done. That being said, I ran my monk through Irestone Inlet elite solo and got renown.

Gornn, before you say it, Irestone Inlet is not level appropriate for a capped monk, and suck it.

You're right. I was going to say, I'm surprised it let you in. Irestone inlet can be a challenge for a monk at that level.

I think the Island is more to your speed.

Thanks for the renown update though. Seriously, maybe it's just that quest, I don't know. It seemed like a good one to run for it. Three chests, fast, close quest giver.

Also, Slink, thanks for the link, but I was looking for the official rundown on what each one does. is there noplace on ddo.com that has it? I looked I couldn't find anything.

Korthos may not drop renown, however.

I wouldnt bother with 'farming' for renown in the least.
It has been proven that members of a smaller guild will have a significantly higher rate of renown over larger guilds.

For instance, if I run on one of my FH tagged alts, I will see 5-15 renown for basic encounters, average of 50 tokens from chests with the occasional 150 and once in a blue moon 500-1000 token.

When playing on an alt from 'Lousy', I get renown from basic encounters of 50 on a regular basis.
150-1000 tokens drop more frequently than 50's, no shit.

If you REALLY feel it is necessary to 'farm' for renown outside of you normal gameplay, look for quests with the highest amount of chests.
irestone is always popular
Tear of D in house p has alot of chests and can be run in under 10 mins on elite with a capped alt.
Bear in mind that I have also noticed a feature similar to ransack on some characters when I do the same quests a few times in sequence.
When it resets, whether it is daily or after a few days, I can not say.

I believe the lower the quest level is in relation to your level the probability of getting chest renown drops I think it's on the same curve as XP but I haven't done that much experimenting.

I hate my job today, so I'll take the time to type out some basics and hope that helps:

There are three basic kinds of Reincarnations:

Lesser
Greater
True

Lesser Reincarnation:  This takes you to the character generation screen and lets you re-assign your stats, skill points, and your appearance.  You start with the same number of build points the character had when you created them (i.e.  a 28 pointer is still a 28 pointer).

You cannot change:
Race,
Alignment,
Name,
Gender

You will then go to the starter boat and walk through the leveling process level by level until you reach your current level.  It's just like talking to a trainer when you level normally.  You will reselect feats, skills, spells, etc.  Tomes you ate will be automatically re-applied at the appropriate minium levels.

Then, after you have releveled the character, you will be able to spend enhancement points.

The biggest deal about the LR is whether you want to change any of the class levels you have.  (i.e. you splashed rogue into a pally and now you want to make it pure to get the capstone) if you want to change any of the choices you made for classes (or even just the order you took them in) then you have to have an Lesser Heart of Wood +X where X is the number of levels you want to change.

Lesser Hearts of Wood, Lesser Heart +1, +3, +5 are available in the DDO store and can be done at any time (no min level) and can only be done every so often (once per week maybe?)

Greater Reincarnation:  This takes you to the character generation screen and lets you re-assign your stats, skill points, and your appearance.  The major difference between the LR and the GR is you now start with the number of build points you would get today for the character (i.e.  a 28 pointer will now be a 32 pointer if you have unlocked 32 point builds).  So this is a great way to get those old 28 pointers a little extra love.

You cannot change:
Race,
Alignment,
Name,
Gender

You will then go to the starter boat and walk through the leveling process level by level until you reach your current level.  You will reselect feats, skills, spells, etc.  Tomes you ate will be automatically re-applied at the appropriate minium levels.

Then, after you have releveled the character, you will be able to spend enhancement points.

The GR has the same issue with regard to changing any of the class levels you had.  If you want to change any of the choices you made for classes (or even just the order you took them in) then you have to have an Greater Heart of Wood +X where X is the number of levels you want to change.

Greater Hearts of Wood, Lesser Heart +1, +3, +5 are available in the DDO store and can be done at any time (no min level) and can only be done every so often (once per week maybe?)

True Reincarnation:  This one is different.  When you do this, all your character's gear (Everything in their bank, inventory or on their person) is placed in a special bank slot called the Reincarnation Cache.  You go back to the character creation screen and start them over.

You cannot change their Name or their Gender.  Everything else is like new for a 1st time character.  Except you now have 34 build points instead of 32.  (or 36 if it is the 2nd time you are TR'ing the same character).

Go through character creation and then you are on Korthos.  You are level 1 with no XP.  You have no gear.  You have no favor earned.

You start life over.  All you have is your gear in that bank slot called the reincarnation cache and any plat you had on you.  You then start powerleveling.  With a harder XP chart.  But in addition to the 2 extra build points you also get a past life feat automatically that is based on your primary class from your previous life(lives).  For example, a Fighter gets a +1 to hit and to all combat DC's.

Important note: Any tomes you ate are gone.  You must re-eat tomes at the appropriate level.  Hopefully you grinded them before you TR'd and have them in your bank.

You can get True Druidic Hearts of Wood (to TR with) by earning 20 epic raid tokens or by shopping in the DDO store.  You can only TR when you are level 20.

To start any Reincarnation, get your heart of wood and go to House Jorasco and talk to the Hobgoblin over by the lake.

Hope that helps.  If I made any mistakes or left anything out, I'm sure the vaulties will 1) ridicule me and 2) give you the correct information.  I would expect nothing less.

EDIT:  Anybody know why Gender is not changable on a TR?  So I can go from Elf to Warforged but not Elf male to elf female?  What gives there?

So, the trick is to drop your guild, create a crap guild, pop all the chests as you run through the quest, then rejoin your original guild before collecting the renown?

(not playing so no idea if there is a mechanic to prevent this).

I dont understand why you stopped playing. You are so smart, you prolly can cap a character in 30-45 mins.

What can I say, I love exploits, and DDO QA is practically non-existent.  How bad, you ask?  So bad that the wise player goes through the list of prior (fixed) exploits whenever an update comes out... it's very common for exploits to return after a few releases.  Now THAT is bad QA... not learning from (or testing for) prior mistakes.  How many times has the same "bypass the raid timer" exploit popped up (there are many versions, but one pops up all the time).

Let me know if this one works.

I don't think I will ever top what my brother and I achieved in Starcraft.  (warning: this story may be boring to those who have never played SC).  Remember zerg nydus canals?  We figured out an exploit that made it so our nydus exit was mobile (in the form of a drone).  More specifically, the last spot on the ground that the drone touched.

So we'd create this drone/nydus exit, load it up into an overlord, then drop/pick up the drone in the base of our opponents.  My favorite was to drop it near their money then send Infested Terrans through the canal.

i briefly tested renown using L17 and L20 wizards

elite run in tbf: 10 runs each averaged 150-500ish renown from 3 chests and 1 reward
normal run in tbf: 3 runs averaged 50-200 renown (note this test is repeated over 2 weeks)

normal TBF = L13, elite = 15

on a L20 fvs

elite irestone: 4 runs, averaged 50 renown per 2-3 chests, 1 50 renown of 4 rewards
normal devils: 10 runs, averaged 200 - 700 renown (this is also where i get most my 1000 renown tokens)

normal devils = L16, elite irestone = L16

on a L20 clr

normal devils: similar result with fvs

from all these data, i'd say renown is inversely proportional with level difference. running a lowbie in level appropiate quests with many chests, ie gwylans, irestone, tear is much more effective than running a high level toon in vod (not counting chests along way). for high level, shroud is the best renown run

Epic von2 and dq1

Von2
Run to maze, loot chests (easier with an evasion character or someone who can heal, but my drow sorc could do this fine) Pretty good drop rate for renown up to 1000 and epic seals.

Dq1
You all should know this already, 3 easy to get chests, good drops up to 1000 and epic seals, easier with invis clickies.

I think they made adjustments to the quests so that Epic, Elite, hard drop more than normal and casual.
I was farming Essance of Earths and was finding it in the end chest.  I also ran normal monastery for Runes and it just seemed like renown was dropping less often.

I am not farming for renown, but I never leave a chest behind.

Git is up to level 6 just running raids and checking chests on the way in sub.  Only other 2 characters are my F2P I test with that are level 5 (haven't ran anything on them for almost a week).
