Hi there,
This is a community announcement from the melee of DDO. Please pay attention.
If you choose to spend all your time kiting in a quest with that piddly ass piece of wood and string, we ask that you quickly learn to solo cos we don't need the -4 to hit chasing your mobs around.
Thank you for listening and please, fuck off

I firmly subscribe to the "you kite it - you kill it" philosophy of melee. If you want me to kill something for you, come over to me and stand still for the two seconds that it will take for me to pull aggro off of you.
Yes, I include squishy clerics and casters in that list as well as pew pew pewers.

When forming my own groups I always ask if they are ranged or melee spec'd. If I get a ranged response I decline unless they are someone I am familiar with.
When joining someone else's group the best way to teach them is to leave them running in circles or away from the party. You took aggro, deal with it. I also keep grease clickys and a way to dispell handy if someone becomes too disruptive in their kiting of mobs.

Ooooooooo! Now THAT is a use for a grease clicky I haven't thought of - put the damn kiting pew pews on their ass.....

For the love of Gornn and all that is unholy, why are you fucking chasing them? A good Pew Pew will draw in a circle and bring them right back in line with you. A poor one will die or run away. Either way you are not running around like a headless chicken.
Give the laziest person, the hardest job, and they will find the easiest way to do it!

I think this is the part where one points out the difference between someone who knows how to kite (useful), versus someone who holds up the quest/griefs the party.
Personally, I've nothing against ranged builds. Some are interesting but haven't ever tried one. I do have a chip on my shoulder for the player who chooses to kite around a boss mob or a mob that has to die to advance/complete. dispel/grease works very well for that.
The problem is that there are so many ranger players who cannot grasp effective ranged use a clusterfuck ensues in some quests. That's where you see the Benny Hill action going on.

Did a tod last night. Dusted off my barb who i havent played in a few months. We usually put a few people on the orthon and have the group kill the devil first.
The devil died and the orthon was at a sliver. The group came over to the orthon and he tossed us. The orthon started chasing me. I kited him around the whole room with the raid group in tow. Finally I started laughing and everyone cracked up. My guildie responded with, "WTF! I thought he was bugged because I looked and there were no rangers in the group!"
Dont be a kiter, unless its funny

There is a difference between kiters and rangers..... Most Rangers worth their weight in salt will be able to kill ANYTHING that they aggro *(at high levels). If you're experiencing problems with mobs: It's either a poor player (drop the prick!) or a bad character (drop the prick!).
Either way: Don't hate the class: Blame the player!

Haven't seen you kids around, plus I TRed drilltex, so he's now a level 8 nublet.
You guys would have loved some of the PUGs I've been in of late. Whiney clerics, 12 year old bragging about the size of their crits (I left the grp saying 'I didn't realise the LFM had an age limit and I was over it') and of course GODDAMN pew pews who can't kite
No drunken, stoned, DDO store mana pot chugging, gimp wizards yet tho... if I find another one, I'll let you know

Also, I've put a similar post about pew pews and kiting in the 'other' place. Please feel free to contribute to that discussion.
If even a few pew pews read it and take heed, we could provide clean water to 20 impoverished villages.

Nice 50 posts in the other place while I was asleep... I've made the pew pewers angry and they've started rants about 'we are uberz dps'
*rubs hands*
Hopefully some good info will come out of it too, cos the next time I PUG with a terrible pew pew, I'm gonna link it

melees' single-mindedness makes me laugh sometimes! Don't get me wrong... I play AA's and I'll be amongst the first to yell at a shitty archer but c'mon... think outside the box sometimes. I was running vale slayers with a barb friend of mine. We would kill something and he'd go running off toward the next mob only to have it teleport/run by him because I'd already shot it causing him to have to chase it back to me. "Damn, Peech, you're killing me with the kiting" he bitched. "I'm not kiting, I'm pulling... stop running away" I said. He did and we proceeded through the vale with me delivering wop'ed mobs to his great axe practically with a big red bow on top. Worked like a charm: they did all the running, we took minimal damage.

Now if you dual wielded banishing rapiers in the vale...you would have gotten through them two times as fast as you wopped them.
That's more the point...

And if they lived for more than a ninth of a second after getting to us then very similar weapons were in my hand...
