I'm really confused now. Last night I couldn't log on to DDO at all - just got to the "searching for logon server" stage and timed out after 20 attempts. Tried several times over the space of a few hours, reset the router, rebooted machines, reset firewall settings; nothing.

I checked the forums in case servers were down, but neither here nor the main forums had anybody complaining so I figured it was probably just me. Figured I'd look into it properly tonight.

Tonight it all works fine. As far as I can make out, nothing has changed at all since yesterday. I have two machines; one running XP, one running Vista. One got rebooted; the other spent the day hibernating. Both behaved the same. The router hasn't been reset.

Does anybody have any idea why this might have happened? And for next time, if there's anything I can do aside from wait until it starts working again?

Next time close down DDO completely.  Then right click the client and run as administrator.  If that don't work you dun broke the hamsters.  Shocked

Also, magnets are magic.

It sounds like a problem between your computer and their login servers.

Now I'm even more confused. I thought magnets were miracles. You know, like rainbows.

You might try removing DDO from your firewall settings, then allow your firewall program to re-aquire DDO when you attempt to run it.

I run into something very similar to this occasionally, DDO changes something on the players end of the software, and the firewall detects that minor change in the DDO program and blocks it from running correctly.

Just something to try anyways.
