This is a separate issue which is understood and can be verified.
The bug is is that if you start throwing a weapon from a consumable stack (ie asteroids) and, while throwing (during the animation) swap weapon sets, then you lose the new weapon you swap to rather than one of those in the consumable stack.
Typical Abbot raid:
Beat on Abbot with 3x good Maul.
Swap to Rocks to break an ally out of encasement.
Quickly swap back to 3x good Maul in preparation for more Abbot-beating.
Throw Maul.
???????
Complain on forums.
This can be avoided by waiting until long after your last throw to swap weapons, or potentially swapping to an unimportant item instead ("Oh no! I threw a heal scroll!").
This can also be tested with any stack of consumable thrown weapons and vendor trash weapons/stack of scrolls. If you time the weapon swap right (wrong?), you will throw the new vendor trash item/scroll rather than one of the 20 +1 throwing daggers you were actually throwing. There is, of course, no way to get back any weapon you have thrown, be it consumable or not.
Cheers,
