With some of those required Items I would hope they altered the loot tables to make them drop more often. Otherwise you won't be crafting most of this stuff.

I asked my grandma what she thought of the crafting changes.  Here's what she had to say:

"As my windshield melts, and my tears evaporate,
Leaving only charcoal to defend -
Finally I understand the feelings of the few,
Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end."

I sort of disagree, Inkblack, because they got the scale totally wrong.

For example, chattering ring for Greater Halfling Bane.  Nobody will ever craft this.
Dreamspitter for GLOB?  BTA loot is a better start than BTC (since the shards are BTA anyway, no BTC loot should be involved...).  Dreamspitter is also not too hard to get, and that grind is worth it if you want a holy burst silver of GLOB.  Still annoying though.
Demon's Blood and Scale for GCOB?  Irrelevant.  This just drives up the cost of demon's blood and scales, but does not increase the difficulty of the crafting.

If they want to make crafting powerful shards difficult, they should require loot that is:
Bound to Account
Either a rare quest drop (like Prysuul's Bane), or a common Raid drop (like shavarath trophies of war).

Cheers,
Kernal

I guess that if you can spawn whatever loot for yourself you want - these changes don't seem so bad.

Also, to clear away the hysteria, no crafting requires any of:
+3 tomes
Astral diamonds
Epic tokens

These all can be used to buy the purified dragonshards, but you can also use things like +1 or +2 tomes.

You can be an idiot if you want and burn your +3 tome, but there's really no reason to.

I wish was more tied to Epic tokens and Shroud mats than loot items.

Really, A +3 Tome is worth 9 of those expensive shards and look in the chest there is a plus three wisdom tome on my barb or wizard and I'm in a pug group.  Do I roll that tome of or say fuck it that's nine purified shards?

Jeez, got an infraction for a rather mild post on the forums.

Typical Turbine bull shit.  All they do is cover the asses of incompetent employees there.

Our motivation to add these extra ingredients (which was only made to a subset of recipes that concerned us) was to preserve and not devalue the efforts made by players to obtain many of the existing powerful named items in the game.

We will make changes.  Unfortunately, they will not be made in time to alter the upcoming patch.  As you know, the system is still in beta and we will effect changes as soon as we can.

Our apologies and thanks for the swift, clear feedback.

I see your point, but that is a bad example.  I can't imagine crafting a Greater Halfling Bane under any circumstances.  They could give it away for a copper or make me delete a character -- it wouldn't matter.

I take that back.  I would craft one if I could chase Flint around with it.

Anyway, my point is you only craft if it is worth it to craft.  I know I've gotten most of my crafting xp by crafting the highest level shard I can, then either throwing it away or deconstructing it (once I figured that part out).  Just doing that with loot got me to the high 30's or so when I'm splitting time between DDO and Rift.  About 5 hours per week in DDO, and I'd spend 15 minutes crafting at the end of the night.  The hardcore people were levelling like crazy in no time I'm sure.

If they make it super expensive across the board, then we will just get our xp by deconstructing.  The price on essences will fall, because they won't be the critical item to craft anymore.  It slows everyone's levelling pace down to a manageable level.  And it ensures that we will have something to do with our excess loot for a long time.  IMO it is a good step towards fixing our very broken economy.

Indeed because him and Eladrin are the morons who don't get it at a basic level.

They are going to keep the pay to win 'purified' junk in and named loot.  They are just going to pull the most egregiously stupid ones all the while only because people said they were stupid and not because they don't realize that greater halfling bane has about as much value as the club of the holy flame.

Where the hell is Stainer so he can tell his buddies at the gaming website he always name drops to do a story about this.

A "whoops" by the developers they have no intention of stopping from going live? Even after admitting the mistake? Sounds like compelling reading to me.

I am entirely willing to self destruct my current DDO forum ID on the crafting recipe changes.

Fucking chuckleheads need to use their brains once in a while.  I like that they tried to balance the crafting costs.  I am just disappointed at how fucking stupid their idea of "balance" ended up being.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Building Corp. INC is proud to announce the we've finally finished our very first super-scraper. 200 floors of corporate space, lavish lavatories, spacious gyms and an exceptional view!

We have however, noticed a slight problem in our design. Due to an unfortunate oversight, elevators have not been implemented into this design. While the building will open for business on the first of the month, we will not be scheduling the new construction to install the elevators until we decide how beneficial they will be to you, as the employees and clients of this new building.

I assure you we have your best interests at heart and will someday hear back from us on whether or not elevators actually provide YOU, the customer, with a true benefit.

As an added gift for the inconvenience, we are giving all customers a free taco.

We appreciate all you do for us. We are a great company and you are great customers. Together we will be great!

Inkblack -

I thought you mentioned a while ago that many of the ML testers were dropping because some of the things that rolled out were pretty bad. Any chance that this craftardedness was one of the culprits?

Much of the raid loot from older quests is quite useless, and I have no problem with those pieces being used in crafting if they are not going to upgrade the quest itself. However, assigning the still useful items to crafting just seems dumb, especially if the end result is going to be less powerful than the items used to craft in the first place.

They should leave the chattering ring for greater halfling bane since no one would actually make a greater halfling bane anyways. Smiley

Other than that there's a lot of these that are just stupid.  Flawless Siberys Dragonshard and FIVE blood of dragons for greater dragon bane?  LDS+Demon's Blood for Greater Evil Outsider Bane?  Spectral Gloves for Attack Bonus +4?

Bah, to hell with crafting.  It's just not worth the headache anymore.
