In my personal opinion, WOW is actually a really fun game until you get to the point where the only way to advance your character is to run raids. The levelling itself is quite fun and there is some pretty cool storyline all the way through.
That was my experience, too. I actually really enjoyed the game as I was exploring new lands, discovering new dungeons, and levelling my character. Once I capped I realized that I didn't have the schedule to try attending any of the end-game raids, and PvP didn't attract me at all.
The huge conflict between the PvE and PvP players in WoW is actually pretty interesting. People who play PvE get all mad that someone can do a better job tanking just by running some arena matches, and people in the arenas get all mad when a tricked-out PvE player comes in and dominates. It makes for a lot of drama on the forums.

If you levelled up a heap of characters of the same race it might get old, but its fun at least the first couple of times through.
When you get to raiding though, it can be a case of running stuff to schedules, which just isn't my thing, YMMV.
Its one of the things I really like about DDO, being able to jump into raids with friends, stuff around a heap and at most an hour later you are done. There is so much room for error its not funny.
Absolutely. The flexibility in finding things to do is really what keeps me playing DDO.
