your baseless speculation was so boring i went to sleep and had a stroke at the same time. Cheesy maintenence always means they are changing something they are just not saying what they are changing

They're probably just doing the Windows Updates that were released this past Tuesday on their servers. They do this EVERY month.

Personally I think with 75 % of turbine being busted accessing R18 porn sites over the last 6 weeks then its probably a full sterile run through the turbine system, data storage and what nots to cleanse all the electronic STI's.

Of course it could be something else.

Note: Numbers may or may not be accurate.

The servers will be down on Monday because they need to power them down so they don't interfere with the summoning ritual - as the Dark Duke of the 8th Layer tells them what to nerf next.

Dungeon Alert? The changes to two weapon fighting?  Yeah, that were the Dark Duke's edicts. Wonder what he's got in store for us now!   Cheesy

My theory is that on sever shutdowns, that it is mainly for the Devs to have an opportunity to loot large mats and choice weapons from players bags and shared bank slots for their own ingame chars use.

Now you know where your missing items/loot are all REALLY going to when they "disappear"  Grin

Glad I could help shed some light on the service shutdown conspiracy for you all.

well now I'm definitely out of crates... no more boxes and any kind of containers that can be used.

And I'm bored... *shows DDO withdrawal symptoms*

you DO realize what the monthly "maintenance" really is don't you?

its time to replace the hamsters!  (still not sure if they necro them or not, but I do know they can't let the wheels not spin for too long...)

These are standard maintenance windows for Turbine, this could be for patching hardware changes, cold backups etc.

Chances are the reason we are seeing them more often is, what is called a PCI(Payment Card Industry) requirement. Which is a fairly new standards body for credit card and identity security that was created in the aftermath of the Homegoods fiasco and other data related thefts to Homeland Payment services.
Basically to be able to take credit cards, companies have to show they have implemented certain levels of security(the levels are based on transaction volumes, more volume the higher the requirements)

Among the requirements is
-all credit card numbers have to be encrypted everywhere including register transactions
-All servers on the same network node as a server that contains  CC info must have security patches installed on a regular basis.

The second requirement is probably why we see so much maintenance downtime now.

They also must be complaint with the Mass. Data Protection Act which is a stricter standard.

I just got that impression after you spent 13 pages calling out eladiun for being an interwebs bully when anyone who's been posting on here already knew that.  I mean, he's proud of it and hardly tries to hide that at all.

Its about the same thing although the mass. act is more broad in its scope. PCI directly affects those who process and or handle/store credit card info. Its all the same stuff coming out the huge loss of data that occurred in 2007.
