Maybe this has been covered else where, but I know some of you converted frmom VIP to F2P, about how many points did it wind up taking? Rough order of magnitude, I'm sitting on a bunch and wondered if I was even in the ball park...

I believe Strakeln has said it was roughly $100 worth per account.

Missing a few packs as it hasn't been updated since last edit date, but still pretty much relevant and good for guidance.

Going fromm f2p to premium

I've bought two point bundles when they were on sale (are the largest packs 6900 points? - can't remember).

That was enough to buy almost every pack, base shared bank, 1 true heart, some minor cosmetic stuff (150TP hats), 1 additional bank space, and i still have like 1500 points left.

I didn't wait for packs to go on sale though.

I bought one $50 pack when it was on sale and one $20 one.  Between those and favor grinding, I have every pack unlocked except the new house C stuff, shared banking, all 10 character slots, and I believe I bought one heart of wood as well.  A few extra things here and there like res cakes or xp pots.

I would have to go with the ~100$ estimate as well, though if you want all the toys (Monks, WF, uFvS, ect) its probably going to cost considerably more.

But for the main adventure packs, and some of the nice optional ones, I am pretty sure I have not spent much more then 100$ so far.

Of course; I am incredibly patient with sales and buy points only when they go on sale; and then buy wanted packs when they go on sale. You can save a fair bit that way.

I took a 6-month break, during which time I bought points and everything in the game when on sale.  About $100 got me everything, so that'd be around 14,000 points (always bought the 6900 pts/$50 deal).

I've just gone back and looked up all the stupid shit I bought as a noob premium player early last year (Threnal at full price? Really? Really?) and been quite surprised by how much is in there. I could buy all the tomes I want plus the critical races/classes and shared bank off the bat. Just need a little more for the packs.

I'm still OK with the sub, but I can very much see going F2P in a few months time when hubby is home and I'm not killing so much time on the computer, particularly with elite opening not being the perk it used to be. Particularly if the PUG scene doesn't pick up after Cove and Maban.

Thanks, being unemployed and sitting on 8000 points it felt like it might be the time to go premium but I wasn't sure if I was even close.

Rumor on the official forum is that there is a 50% sale this holiday weekend. I have not logged in myself to check, bit it might be a good time to buy a few packs/classes if they are on at such a steep discount as well.

This is why I would actually like to be able to buy packs as a VIP.  If I just let my account expire, i will miss the sale.  Nifty little trick there turbine.

While chewing over this some more (my sub is due to run out in May so I've plenty of time) I found this nifty little guide on the main forums. Good advice there.

If you call Turbine and ask that they cancel your VIP status immediately instead of waiting for it to expire, they can do that.  I don't know if they *will* do that, because customer service at Turbine is unpredictable, but they can.

Yeah, they put some thought into that one.  Ticked me off too.

Because there's a 50% off sale on adventure packs and you know that you're not going to renew your VIP membership?

I thought that one was obvious.

I think it's brilliant.  I would definitely be buying packs now and again so that I could eventually find myself as a premium player, but instead I spent all of my summer points on Astral Diamonds because I needed something to burn them on and don't give a chainsaw.

The mindlessness of VIP suits me well anyway, though.  Tongue  Set it and forget it!

Why would you stick the game out after december?

I would stay to hang out with friends, and that to me is the draw to convert to premium, that way I can stay until they turn the servers off.

Curious about SWTOR though. Might do some research.

There is a thread up in the "other" forums where a SWtOR beta-tester gives it a bad review. Sorry but I do not have a link handy.

EDIT: Found the link. http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=346210

Yeah, I saw that, didn't look appealing.

My cookie cutter go and kill 10 rat MMO slot is filled by being a F2P tard in LOTRO. Wink
