IMHO - The man is a saint for not going completely 5150 on the playerbase.  It’s one fucking bug in a feature that was put on lammaland really late in the preview.  Then, both systems that he needed the most (bug reporting tool and the forums) were broken by 2 other departments (Actual code monkeys and the forum admins.).

The systems that he needed the most were:
1) Automation
2) SDETs who aren't fuckups

The bug reporting tool and the forums are (or at the least should be) back-up tools for when the automation and the test engineers fail.

I think they have pretty much proven they didn't know about the chests.

Mistakes happen.

You are a unhappy person. Would you like my TOR beta pass?

Less mistakes happen if you have proper procedures in place.

I don't think QA knew about the chest exploit before live.  They certainly would have been able to delay the release or roll back the build for release if they did.  Not even Fernando would think that having a major exploit go live was a good idea.

The whole point of having a window where no changes can be made to a build before release is so that these sorts of nasty surprises do not hit you with a released version of code.

Hence, why it matters to know that marketing, WB, and pretty much anyone but the systems team really would not have been up in arms if the chests and a few other minor changes to challenges did not go into the initial live build.

And, just to throw this out there, the point of testing is not to enumerate bugs.  That's a fucking drop-dead simple job that any teenager with can of jolt and a pizza can do.

The point of testing is preventing future bugs.  That's what a lot of bad QA managers don't understand.

Your team found a bug today with manual testing?  Whoopie-fucking-doo!

Why was that bug in the code in the first place?
Did this bug make it through spec reviews?
Did this bug make it through code reviews?
Did this bug get caught by automation?

Oh, so you failed three times and succeeded once.  That's not even good for baseball!

Well, if you threw 3 balls and then threw a strike, that would be ok.

And how does that help him glean information from the playerbase in your non existent perfect world?

Who stated that my world was perfect?  In a perfect world testing wouldn't be necessary at all.  Stop trying to participate in grown-up conversations.  Go back to the kiddie table where your third-grade intelligence makes you seem cool to the second-graders.

There is an assumption that QA has zero powers from those who like to excuse the state of the game.  That is not true in any company.

QA does dick where I work now, and has no authority to really do anything.  Ditto for a lot of other places.

It's a shitty way to do things, but unfortunately that is a reality for many shops.

Yes, that was my favorite part too, because my answer was "Your post had no point and was fucking moronic."

Would you like me to elaborate?  Sure!

Me: "The bug reporting tool and the forums are (or at the least should be) back-up tools for when the automation and the test engineers fail."

Him: "And how does that help him glean information from the playerbase in your non existent perfect world?"

Elaborated answer: "First of all, you are a fucking moron.  Let us be clear about that.  Secondly, you are conflating two subjects which are in no way mutually exclusive or even explictly or implicitly dependent on one another.  Good software testing techniques do not prevent, hinder, obviate, or even really tangentally touch upon getting buf information from customers."

Is that better?

Doesn't the phrase "mutually exclusive" mean the opposite of "dependent upon one another"?  So... you tell me they're not dependent, and they're not independent.  What are they bro?

You are correct.  I meant to type "inclusive".  The phrase "mutually exclusive" is just more common and so my brain filled it in automatically.  Damn scumbag brain.
