All animals in my house earn their keep.  The dogs put food on the table and the cats make sure there's no critters ready to take it away.

Cats are incredible hunters.

A Malamute... I like very much that kind of dog but they are very difficult to train.
For my sanity, I would rather choose a more "orange" dog.

Yea, it gets worse, she is crossed with a siberian huskey Cheesy She isnt too bad, 2 next sunday, they start calming down round that age.

She gets a bit hyper on the lead, and I have to be cautious where/ when I let her off it... she can run faster and further then I can Cheesy

Cats are awesome.

My mom's cat is super hunter cat. He catches hummingbirds for fuck's sake. That shit is amazing to me. He gets a lot of gophers and squirrels too. I think he had a bunny once, but it was a baby.

Both of my cats are old and lazy. When I let them out, they usually just go lay on the lawn in the shade  Grin  Grin  Grin

Well, I exaggerate my hatred of dogs.  So it is fair.  They aren't that bad - the only thing I really hate about them is their barking.  OMG it can get so annoying and half the time it is just because it is halfway fucking retarded.  Cats meow because they want something.  They also have no problem going to what they want.  Fuck, my cat brings me her water dish if I forget to fill it.  Just drops it next to me and meows annoyingly until I fill it.  Once I even decided to see how long she would keep at it.  I gave up after 3 minutes.

Also, cats reign supreme.

My cat will not claw anything of mine.  Take her somewhere else though and she has no problem clawing up everything they may own.  She also knows better then to get on my keyboard.

Cats are trainable in two distinct methods:
1.  Get them as a kitten freshly weaned (or bottlefeed them and have them think that you are mommy).
2.  Clean out a spray bottle and shoot them if they do something they aren't supposed to.  I have never had to do it (I always get kittens, sometimes before they are supposed to be weaned :/ )- but I hear it works great.  Since cats hate water and getting wet, I don't doubt it.

Dogs can do tricks, but tricks dont impress me.  You have to get them toys and shit.  I can just grab a piece of paper, crumple it up, and it will entertain my cat for weeks, or until ripped to shreds.

Cheap, and keeps critters away!

What I find great about cats, is they hunt anything within their domain.  Doesn't matter what it is, it is fucking prey.

I have seen cats chase squirrels up trees and climb down with said squirrel in their mouth.  Seen them wait patiently until that fucking bird flies within 8 ft of them and then turned to kitty chow.  Watching them hunt is amazing.

My cat brings frogs, she doesn't kill them though.  She just brings them to the porch and watches them.  Maybe bats them if they jump high enough just to watch them fly.

When I was growing up in some rundown shitty assed trailer park, we had a cat that kept the local dogs in check.  Trust me when I say, there is nothing funnier then watching a cat chase a dog from the yard.  I mean, they only had like 80 ibs on her, funniest shit ever.  Sadly, that is the only cat I have ever seen or heard of keeping the local mutts in check.  Ahh, good times.

My cats are indoor only cats, but they still are damn useful. In our first house, we had tons of those crazy house centipedes that move at the speed of light. The cats hunted the shit out of them. Here everyone has mice - except us. We HAD mice. Girl cat caught her first mouse the other day (and is now super proud of herself), and with the two of them stalking things the mice moved on out. They don't claw my stuff, because if they try I yell at them and I'm "mommy." We were there when they were born, and one of them was weak and needed to be fed from a dropper by me, so they don't mess with me.

I have a husky too, and I adore him. But, the cats are definitely easier than the dog. In particular, it's a pain that I can't let him run off-lead, because with typical husky-ness he gets so excited about the running he no longer hears thing like his name or cars honking. He doesn't really bark, though - I do not like yappy dogs in my house - but he does "talk" when he wants something.

I'm pretty sure most cats could easily take on most dogs.

My dogs have piles and piles of toys - in fact, they have two toy boxes, one upstairs and one downstairs.  But their favorite toy of all?  Cardboard.  We give them almost every cardboard box we have, they break 'em down for us, then we use the cardboard for firing up the stove.  In fact, looking at the dog's bed (queen size mattress) next to me, there's 1 ball, 1 un-stuffed pound puppy, 1 destroyed kleenex box, 1 destroyed shoe box, and 3 large squares of cardboard from some other boxes.

Yeah, it's actually kind of handy - never have to break down boxes for recycling or burning.  Everything from furniture boxes to mac&cheese boxes, they take care of for me.

My cat plays fetch.  He'll grab an elastic hair band, jump next to me and drop it on my lap.  Then bat my arm until I launch it across the room for him to grab.  I did not train him to do this, just shot a hairband that he happened to be batting around.  He looked at me like I was a goddamned wizzard.

He's also weird when he wants to wrestle.  Many cats will do the back-arched sideways pose, but he'll do that then bend his head down and look at me upside down.  He doesn't stop though and just keeps doing it until he fucking summersault, it's hilarious.  I'd love to get a big dumb retriever of some sort as well, but having a 2nd floor apartment and working 12hrs a day are not terribly conducive to proper dog ownership.
