If you have room for an extra drive, then just the game. SSD drives are not as expensive as they used to be. Check our newegg.com for prices.
If I ran the drive from a large flash drive, say 16G, would it be equivalent to running on a SSD, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Also, could I just run an external SSD via USB? I use a laptop.

no - SSD is different than a flash drive by leaps & bounds

As far as I know, there are no External SSDs.
Even if there were, the now-clunky USB 2.0 interface would slow them down way too much to be worth buying in my opinion.

All the external drives I see on newegg are USB 3.0.
(Though I’m amazed there aren’t any eSATAs.)

S3 is faster than USB3 - but really internal is the way to go for SSD

Ok so recommend a good ~60GB SSD for ~$100 to me.
I'll probably get 2 and set em up in a RAID setup.

No it won't. Still the dog's bollocks though. Fixed zoning crashes completely for me, and of course makes quests and zones load quicker in general.

Read the reviews. Newegg is a good retailer, and if someone posts a negative review it is usually followed up on.

NO, that would be a very bad idea, SSD is shittons faster than any usb drive.

Depends on the HDD, I'm sure the U320, 15K HD I have sitting somewhere are shittons faster than any usb stuff... While the sata 5200rpm crap hosted in my laptop is shittons slower than any usb stuff.
Now if only I could cram the first one in the laptop... I wouldn't gripe for loosing all the room the shitty 5200rpm disk has.... I have to wait 3 years ( or find a way to fubar the laptop ) to have the new ones with an SSD drive.

I have a pair of scsi 15k rpm drives that my last two (and current) ssd smokes - even when they are raided up
my most recent pick up on the SSD front was a micron 400 128gb drive - I got it for about $140 on sale at newegg, it runs all games I play regularly + windows and browsers, etc.
I had a corsair 40gb drive prior to that, but it really only enough space for my windows + browser and took some steady constant management to be "working" correctly with the limited space - however this is desktop poweruser enviroment. 60 gb on a laptop is fine, but if you have $ to raid it, buy a single bigger drive, you won't be able to tell the speed difference, you won't have to deal with random garbage collection issues, and you will have MOAR SPASE! which is always helpful. 128 gb Micron drive was a very good purchase and they have been great on perfomance updates to that drive.

I was actually looking at the 64GB version of that particular drive. It's gotten amazing reviews. If my computer won't allow me to run a RAID 0 through SATA, this is an alternative being almost the same price as 2x of the 64s I was looking at.
