I know this is homebrew, but it is a psychic enclave, and they are supposedly working on psions and kalashtar.

Ooh! ooh! Speculation threads!  My favorite!

Perhaps Turbine and WotC is planning a DDO2 based around the 5.0 ruleset.

Probably neither, as Eladiun explained here:

So DDO2, almost certainly not.
Expansion to FR?  Almost certainly not.
Expansion?  Probably, with the information we have at hand this seems the most likely.

The fact that Turbine registered DDOforgottenrealms.com leads me to believe this is definitely an expansion to the Forgotten Realms and not a trip to Khyber (which we have done already in part 2 of the Xoriat line)

Khyber is Eberron's version of the Underdark, it is not the "Underdark" of the Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk" though. The world was formed when the progenitor wyrms changed their form into what they are now. Siberys and Khyber fought, leading to Siberys' body being broken into pieces. To stop Khyber, Eberron wrapped around him, and Siberys' broken body became a ring around them both. Siberys created the dragons, Eberron created humanoids and other "lower races", and Khyber created the "demons" of the world.

In FR and Greyhawk things like beholders, mindflayers and drow are natural residents of the "Underdark", whereas in Eberron only one subsect of drow has chosen to venture into Khyber, while most live in the ruins of the giant Empire either in violent confrontation with the giants that remain, or in servitude like the Sulatar drow who still serve the fire giants of the Sulat league.

Beholders and Mindlflayers populate Khyber because they and their Daelkyr masters were banished there by the Gatekeeper druids long ago when they invaded from Xoriat.

The other group that lives in Khyber are the Demon rajahs that once ruled Eberron and were spewed forth by Khyber itself. The most powerful demons, the Rajah's were sealed within Khyber by the combined force of the dragons and the Couatls who sacrificed themselves to bind the demons to Khyber.

I really hope that Turbine in not going to tie Eberon and FR together, that would be rather weird.

FR is a high magic world that meshes quite a few "stapes" of fantasy into one over all world, if they really fit or not.

Whereas Eberon is a steam punk magic world with a wholly different mythos.

I was always a fan of the core FR world, not so much all the little add-on parts.

If they try and mesh the two it will be contrived and awkward.

Lolth is an evil goddess of the Drow in other D&D worlds besides Ebberon, I do not know if she is in the Ebberon mythos or not, but I do not think she is.

Easy enough to have a storyline which has Lloth's followers open up a connection between FR and Eberron for the purposes of spreading Lolth's worship to the drow of Eberron.

They could have that storyline involve the 'discovery' of this other world to the residents of Eberron who could take it upon themselves to open up other connections for trade/invasion/exploration/whatever.

Even without that bit it seems likely that the initial storyline would have the players going through to the forgotten realms underdark to kick some drow around.

Little off track -

From the survey I got awhile back, I have the impression we will be seeing FR and Greyhawk versions of DDO. Standalone or somehow incorporated with the current DDO, I am not sure. Does it make sense to mingle campaigns?

Not unless you mix Planescape/ Spelljamer or something similar in.

Edit: However, if they did standalone their player base would be spread over different games.

She lives in the demonweb in the Abyss in FR and GH

Keith Baker once stated in a post that Lolth does not exist in Eberron(someone was asking about driders). But this was prior to the introduction of 4th edition which added the abyss where Khyber has been changed somewhat to look like this

Quote:
The Chaos of Khyber

The Elemental Chaos

The legendary dragons correspond to the three layers of the universe. The Elemental Chaos, or the Chaos of Khyber, is the nether region that forms the foundation of existence-the world below. This tormented reality is home to demons, devils, and worse. These creatures struggle to break free from Khyber and into the Coils of Eberron, in order to prey upon vulnerable mortal bodies and minds.
Planes of Khyber

The Abyss: The Realm of Demons
Fernia: The Sea of Fire
Kythri: The Churning Chaos
Risia: The Plain of Ice

http://community.wizards.com/coga/wiki/The_chaos_of_khyber

the existence of the abyss means it is possible that the demonweb exists as well if your approaching it form a 4th edition mindset

Sure.

Spelljammer and Planescape were both specific campaign settings designed around the idea of mixing campaign worlds.

In standard D&D worlds you basically have this cosmology of planes that interconnect.  Most of the game worlds just sit on a particular world in the prime material plane (which connects to other planes fairly easily).

Eberron is kind of goofy with it's own pseudo cosmology at work.  That said I do not see why Eberron could not be placed within the standard cosmology behind the veil of those other planes.  So it would take more connections to get to Eberron from FR compared to getting to greyhawk, but I don't see why they couldn't do that.

From a FR standpoint, there are tons of gods that come from other worlds and cultures that had came from other worlds in it so it would hardly be a big jump to have some warforged start a city on the edge of a planar gate.

I think that it would be a huge mistake to do a different game approach.  That would just fragment the player base.

This is what I was thinking, besides WF in FR?, no thank you.

Money side

One of the devs said they are getting ready, or have even, hired a shit ton of people.

They are releasing a console game that is beta now. http://www.gothamcityimpostors.com/

Lotro is rock stable.

Is it possible that the plan is just to spin off a whole new MMO? They have 3 already - AC, Lotro and DDO. What is one more?

If an FR MMO opens up and Eberron fizzles out and closes down before I get a chance to ride a fucking dinosaur I will be severely displeased.

Gotham City Imposters is being developed by Monolith another WB owned studio, though Turbine could be providing dev resources, as they indicated they would be leveraging cross studio resources

The website is on a Turbine Server. I think this is Project Hendrix.

Sure it's possible.  I don't see the upside for them though if they do that.

Fracturing your player base instead of shoring it up seems like a boneheaded move to me.  Twice as many devs required for the same amount of content when split between games sounds like a pretty bad idea to me when the option exists to have the game worlds in the same game.

The enhancement revamp (particularly the drow/tempest change) makes alot of sense with a FR merging under way behind the scenes.

No.

AC is still going in maintenance mode.

And I am thinking out loud. Other than we are getting something new to do with Lollth and the Underdark, I am a little lost.
