Why?

Why is it that every ToD run, the WF tank and reconner gets assigned to the JAILER (ie, the one that DOESN'T throw a healing curse)? More and more groups just have an arcane tank the jailer now, but I still don't understand - why isn't the jailer killed first, and the judge tanked?

It's just to keep things together for the irritating boss.

That way, when people get tossed all over the map, you don't have to worry about some random person getting aggro out of nowhere and getting cursed and dead.  You're already looking for the curses and expecting it.

The Judge is the more problematic of the two because of his healing curse, it's easier for things to go wrong. Groups I run with started doing him first because if shit hits the fan for some reason, at least it was as early as possible.

I don't know why your groups assign a toaster tank and a reconner to the Jailor, that's just retarded.  One healer or self healing arcane can dot and kite him easily until the other is dead.

If people start getting killed for some reason, the damage output from the guys in the penalty box was given to the annoying boss Smiley. Let's say 3 or 4 dps get killed for some stupid reason...it would be easier to deal with an orthon rather than a pit fiend when you're behind on dps.

The judge is a lot more dangerous to the group than the jailor.

Much easier to have a divine/arcane/self healing dps/ac tank keep the jailor occupied while the party takes the judge down.

I agree with the sentiment that a must be WF dps with arcane to recon him is redundant and laughable.  Before update 9's dots it was easy to steal aggro and kite the jailor with a wizard.  I'd done it myself on a couple of occasions following the WF 'tank' being squishy.

Assign two arcanes or arcane and divine to dot the jailer while the rest kill judge, bard dances dogs... win.

We usually just have a melee type and all the arcanes and a healer type kill the orthon and everyone else on the judge and kill them at the same time / or a race if you want to think about it that way Smiley

Alright, I understand that if things go hairy, you want the Judge to be as dead as possible as opposed to the jailor - but on Normal ToD, in which even the most incompetent PuG will waltz past part 1, why do we continue to insist (on khyber) to put a WF tank/reconner on the jailor?

Standard Khyberian stupidity?

I'd say it's standard stupidity, aye.

People see a horned devil and start screaming for a WF TANK!!!.

I've been in plenty runs where a self healing caster was on kiting duty while everyone else killed the judge.
None ever had any problems.

Exactly. There is a horned devil, so we absolutely need a WF tank who gets reconstructed.

But since all other melees will be beating on the devil with mass heals on them the only thing left for him to tank is the orthon.

The only logical approach, no?

I am wondering: What are the pros and cons of doing first judge, then jailor, or the other way around?

When the cloak of curses procs on top of another curse it used to "cancel each other out"  leaving you curse-less. At least that is way it used to work, haven't tried it lately to see if it still works.

Pretty sure Cloak of Curses also procs a "remove curse" type effect - it's why you hardly ever end up cursed for long from it if you're getting hit a decent amount. Wouldn't be surprised if that effect also removed curses from other sources.

why kite him at all? Take him about 10 feet from the judge and melee him or just block and hold him.
He does so little damage to any DR tank.

And if you have his aggro, he is an orthon, step a few feet away and all he does is stand there and shoot at you..
Then he will teleport to you and you just walk back some more...yeesh..

kite..lol

much easier if everyone is just all together.

Why does it matter?  The raid is easy enough...kill them both at the same time and be done with it. Wink

That is kiting...

Usually throw a ranger to just shoot at him or a caster to nuke while the rest of the party is busy. Get some HP down and relatively low risk as they can just heal themselves.

Yes, the end result is the only time you get cursed is when the deleterious effect (all Cursed Crypt items have one of some kind) of the Cloak of Curses procs. That effect is that on occasion when you hit stuff, you wind up cursing yourself. The positive (hidden) effect of the Cloak of Curses is you're nigh immune to getting cursed.

I need to join these runs.. I've never been asked to dance the dogs on my bard, usually I just end up grouped into "melee". I get bored.

First run with my sorc in ToD yesterday, and I get assigned to kite the Jailor.  It was easy.  Just run around up top and DoT the hell out of him.  I think I got him to 60% before it was time to bring him down.

I screwed the pooch on tanking the shadows though.  I didn't die, but the party got surprise butt sexed when I didn't grab all of the shadows' aggro.  We recovered, but it was pretty tense for a few.
