Rolling stats in BALDURS GATE for ages was my version of the Pokies. Strangely addictive.

In PnP we rolled 4d6 and dropped the lowest, 6 times. Rolling 3d6 for each stat and then having to change class because you had 11 int or str was not our idea of fun.

Point buy takes all the fun out of rolling stats for me, a bit of randomness is what DnD was built on.

We play 3.0/3.5 and this is how we roll stats. Never did the point buy thing in D&D, and I wouldn't want to. I have crazy good luck with dice, to the point that my DM made me roll every roll on the table with his dice. It didn't change anything. Grin

And then you actually look and there are both ways to get PCs better than that and enemies that have better than that, so suck it.

And then you look at multiple games officially based off of the rules and built with constant contact with Lake Geneva and you see a cap of -10.  Among other sources.

I'm more than willing to admit that I'm wrong if you can point to an enemy in officially published material that has someone/thing with an AC below -10.  But I thought TSR was pretty clear.

Not that it ever came up in any 2nd ed games I played, as far as I can recall.  Then again, I think the highest level we ever reached was 13-14.

There might be one or two more but a lot of the .pdf files I have for D&D are not word searchable right now. Was not able to cover many of the monstrous compendiums and some of the god books(F&A, DD,PFtF, P&P, and ect...) with word search and too lazy to do it the old fashioned way. And have not even touched searching for any of the module specific monsters like the above mentioned dragon. That would just take too damn long.

NP.

Those two are pretty much kind of an exception I believe. There were only a little over half a dozen monsters I saw in my search with -10( Lloth being one. Her AC never changed between 1st and 2nd) and the most common was -2 and -4.

Yeah. Other people keep porn on computer. I've got over 9 gigs of D&D .PDF's. I think my priorities are a little mixed.

Pure fucking class.

I played so much Bard's Tale III.  I started when I was like 8.  I remember the day that I thought to type "CHAOS" to the priest and everything started to change.  It still took me fucking months to get to Arborea.  I think I had the official hint book by then.

I picked up The Bard's Tale on my Iphone/Ipad a little while back.  (the game that was released on the xbox/playstation in '04 or so).  They just did an update last week to add in a port of the original bard's tale game as well.

I started it up a couple of days ago, but the screen was pretty cramped on my phone when the virtual keyboard was up.  I'll have to try it again when I can steal my wife's Ipad back from her.

You think players should be allowed to move their stats?  Pussy.

If Gary had wanted you to have that 12 (your highest roll on the 3d6 among those 6 stats) in a stat other than Cha, then the dice would have come up 12 on some other stat.

If you don't want to spend an hour making characters yes.  I also don't enjoy them purposefully killing their characters and making ones that will do decently with the stat rollups.  I don't play the game to sit there as they make characters for two hours.

Given that those levels are about equal to 20 in modern editions it doesn't matter. If it didn't come up it's because no one was trying hard enough.

You should blame your parents.

And the Wizardry games. That's just a display cap though. You still get the full benefit, they just didn't have enough room for three characters under AC.

I used that dungeon twice to end 2 gaming groups by obliterating the party.  Nothing more gratifying as DM when the realization sets in on your party that they've spent all these months/years on these characters to become kobold food.

Totally wrong. TOTALLY WRONG.  For succesfull PnP roleplaying following is needed:

1) A whole sasion for rolling the characters, whining constantly to the game master. It is mandatory that one player is not present and will roll his PC in front of some trusty witness (for example, his dog). He will roll an uber PC but he will swear that it was all legal. This will cause more whining.

2) Asuming you play every two weeks 4 hours, the beginning hour has to be spend discussing some important matters: Is homeopathy a scam? What frozen pizza is best?

3) The rules book is the HOLY FUCKING BIBLE. It is not a guide. From the resting 3 hours of gameplay, you have at least to spend one hour discussing with the game master, reading the rule book, and interpreting the rules to your favour.

L2P n00b

1.  Try traveler (80s Sci-fi rpg).  Expect it to take awhile as characters could die while being rolled up.  If you want to own a (pitifully weak) starship (required for the included adventure in one of the boxed sets, also gets things started pretty well), expect to bring a ream of paper: you will be going through a lot of characters.

2.  Note this is a minimum.  Expect various intoxicants to increase this.

3.  Old school (as in the AD&D Baldur's Gate is based on) DMs FTW.  Do not taunt old school DM.  AD&D (at least first edition) is heavily broken (mostly against players) and if you try to question a rule he will make you roll 12 consecutive times for your monthly "contact disease check" for the last year.  Then he will get nasty.

I played it on my iphone4 sometimes, and on my wife's ipad2 the rest of the time.  With the game saves stored in the ICloud, it's a reasonably decent transition between the two.  I've had to refresh the save game listing a couple of times when switching between the two platforms, but that's about it.

I think I made it roughly halfway through before putting it back on the shelf.  I'll revisit it again when I'm out of town a few times later this year.

I'm gonna go with "You missed something".  The part you quoted is talking about the bard's tale game they ported to Iphone/ipads earlier this year.

Wow, you love me. There has been two big lag fixes in the past week. No, those are not going out with a hotfix. They are more wide ranging and take more time to test.
Of course every time you get like this, I keep wondering where your MMO is so I can play it. Obviously you know excatly how to piece one of these together. I can't keep apologizing a gazillion times for the back end tech and things people did on this game before I was even an employee. So one last time, yes some of the stuff from the before times sucks. Sorry about that. Yes we know, stop building new systems. Yes we know, finish the ones out there. Yes we know you hate bards.

And screw you for bringing up the laid off folks. That sucks every time. I made sure all my people landed in other jobs real quick. None of my 'casualties' are unemployed, just sadly not employed by Turbine. Every business goes through this.Even Valve has layoffs. It sucks every time. If you haven't had to do it then you just don't know. Picking people and knowing you are about to turn their life upside down is terrible, every time.
Not giving a bleep. No, I stop listening when the bile starts. Not worth my sanity. You know my rule, treat me like a human and I'll do the same back. When the rage train starts...cya.
So here is my peace out of the vault for a while. Thanks for the list Ranger, that was actually clear and helpful.
