MadFloyd started the thread he is probably going to regret.

Get your rant on and let him know how you feel.

I love how he told people, "I don't want your suggestions, assholes. Give me general feedback, but keep your homebrew abortion of AC systems to yourselves." (Paraphrased)

Think that's in response to Cyr et al on the Let's Talk: Enhancement Update thread?

Everybody is saying the same things.

1. No, it's broken.

2. The scaling and benefits of AC vs DPS is fucked.

3. We want it to work in all content, including Epics.

Refrain from suggesting a solution.

In this thread I'm not interested in solutions - only because it will make parsing people's perceptions of the problems that much more difficult.

He's right, though. When people toss in all their suggestions of what they think the system should be, it's difficult to pick out what the base problems are. If you're really going to fix something the right way, you don't go straight to new fixes. You identify the problem and then work on the fix.

Well, I do agree with this.  It’s kept the response from the playerbase disturbingly consistent.  Grin

Nah.  He knew he was going to have to tackle this conversation when he started the Let’s Talk threads.

I expected a lot more "...but make sure that AC builds can't be effectively immune to melee damage".

It seems like people have actually figured out that being effectively immune to melee damage in DDO is not the same as being immortal or being an effective character.  I'm impressed.

He's wagging the dog, it's a "distraction" thread to keep people for ripping on them for fucking up the enhancements update.

it's a good play, the typical forum trolls can chew on this for a few days.  Hopefully long enough to stall people until they've un-fucked all the "epic" stuff int he new update and can disclose some real information.

There's still a bunch of ignorant posters who don't know the game mechanics well enough to have an informed opinion but they are in the minority.

it's absolutely laughable how much more un-killable my 25 AC pale master is over my 102 AC Paladin.

Nothing concrete.  I've been hearing for a long time that they want to do something, but I think they are stuck.  They have to use the d20 system.  Anything else, well, it's just not D&D.

I'm pretty sure that all mobs have the same base stats.  Coming up with random encounters has also been in discussion, and I think they could use that to fix AC.

Example:
You run across four Ogre Berserkers.  Each could randomly be:
+20 to hit, 5d12+50 damage
+25 to hit, 4d12+40 damage
+30 to hit, 3d12+30 damage
+35 to hit, 2d12+20 damage
+40 to hit, 1d12+10 damage

Which one is which?  Did you get one beast, one sure-shot, and a mix of others?  Did you get 4 that are going to hit like trucks if you don't have AC?  Or will they hit everyone, even your AC tank?  You can't tell just by looking, you don't know until you see how often you get hit, and how hard.  In the same dungeon, another mob type has a to-hit profile between 10 and 60, but with a flatter damage profile.  Maybe something else is +50 to +70.  The point is that within the dungeon, the whole range of AC is present.

Problem is creature AI is not good enough to adapt to the Players' ridiculously high ACs.

Example: What do players do when a Monster has a REALLY high AC? They either kill the Mob with Magic or they buff the Melees with spells to help their to-hit against those Mobs.

The creature/monster AI is not good enough to compensate in the way players do. Therefore, the HAVE to give monsters a "pre-existing" advantage and that's by giving mobs high AC, high SR, high HP, and high To-Hits.

Only when the monster AI gets better will it be ok for all those things to be brought down to reasonable levels.

They did that with Amrath, the bearded devils have significantly more to-hit than the Orthons.  it actually works pretty well.

Yup, it's a stall for time thread.

yes, but my henchman didn't reply because I really didn't understand it.

If what Ink says is true and they MUST stick with the d20 then the options are kinda limited as to what Turbine can do.  I've heard conflicting rumors from various leaks, and my only hope that that whatever they do doesn't fuck up the level 1-19 game.

The biggest issue is in places that used to be endgame areas. Look at the ac scaling for gianthold as an example. Or the vale. Even amrath and epics. The ac points needed in those areas are benchmarks, but are so high, that only a tr or a dex/wis monk is gonna have the ac to matter.

That's not true.  You don't need more than a 13-14 starting Wisdom and a 15 starting DEX (you're gonna take that anywat for TWFing) to hit the number.

Unless a Starting 16 STR is considered a DEX-build these days.

It used to be like that, but the 3-5 points you can get off of Air-ship buffs and Craftable Dodge 2 goggles/trinkets has closed that gap.

I'd personally like to see a new big-AC thread to see what kinds of interesting things people can put together at various stages.

Maybe something like

level 3 - armor + shield
level 3 - pajamas

level 10 - armor + shield
level 10 - pajamas

level 15 - armor + shield -> no raid gear, no DT, no Greensteel
level 15 - pajamas -> no raid gear, no DT, no Greensteel

level 15 - armor + shield -> second or later life.  Go nuts on gear
level 15 - pajamas -> second or later life.  Go nuts on gear

level 20 - armor + shield
level 20 - pajamas

My level 5 barb/fighter is around 46AC right now in S&B mode w/shipbuffs. Nothing is going to come anywhere close to hitting at that level.

Heck equipping Carnifex (which is most of the time) loses me 4 or 5 AC (sup stability is on the armor) and practically nothing can hit that.

Well over 50 at level 7 from picking up addtional dex, insight +2, +5 shield, etc.
