Figured I'd put this out there in case anyone was planning to try NWN Online. If you preorder Torchlight 2, you get automatic access to the NWN closed beta. Sadly, if you preorder through Steam, you don't get beta access (though you do get Torchlight 1 free). I'd include a link, but I'm fucking lazy.

Info so far about NWN Online sounds somewhat promising for those who like DDO's active combat. It sounds like primary and secondary at-will powers will be mapped to the left and right mouse buttons, an evasive move will be mapped to left shift, and encounter and daily powers will be mapped to the 1-9 hotbar. 4E kinda sucks, but at least it seems like it will translate into an MMO in a not-entirely-shitty fashion.

I thought it wasn't being considered an MMO, more of a game you could play online with friends, if you wanted.

Cryptic decided to shift from the typical NWN online format to a F2P MMO model.

NWN2 was the only booth I didn't get a chance to spend time at at PAX.  The time we stopped by they were having technical difficulties and their monitors were down.

They changed it just after Atari sold Cryptic to PWE.

That's also why it has been delayed.

Anyway, from what I can guess of the various agreements and such, I won't expect much of it.

As Turbine can now use FR, I suspect NWN will become it's own universe totally split from the rest of the D&D licence and be (ab)used in computer/console/fesse de bouc games.

So basically NWN is a brand, with a fantasy countryside that might have a few things in common with FR but it is not FR.
