On a technical note, my bet is that this is a new wall flag, something like "AllowsTargeting", in preparation for Glassteel walls in the XPAC or somesuch, and the installation defaulted it to TRUE on all the walls.  5 FRDS says I'm right.  If I lose, you can have mine just as soon as I farm them up.

I will take that bet, and if I lose you may have my 5 frds when I am ready to give them to you.

Schmoe already lost the bet. Apparently it was due to a fix for doors that was screwed up.

Harsh.  Maj oversaw and kept comprehensive record of the new physics engine testing on Lamannia.  Then, they jammed in one last "tweak" that went straight to live.

It's easy to put the blame on him.  But, it may not have been anything that he had the ability to control.

You are probably right.  This one likely isn't on Maj.  I'd hang it on Eladrin or whoever is in charge of the release process.  In all likely hood it was probably one of the new devs who slipped something in.  This is the sort of shit that happens when you combine bad processes with lots of new hires and reteamed devs.

Apparently it was on lam this last weekend. Of course, nobody bothered to bring up that they patched it, so maybe a second look was in order.

Again.

What is this, 4th release like that in a row now? You'd think they'd take a hint.

The problem with Lamania is that only a few players are willing to go there and spend time there.
There's no real incentive to do it ( ok, now they have event given TPs, but seriously that won't cut it in the long run. ), and those that are visiting lamania at the moment will visit it anyway.

Based on this, they should communicate everytime they make a tiny change in the game, so that those dedicated people would connect and check.
I didn't check the latest round of Lamania... I didn't have the time to go waste hours ( even with the incentive of the TPs ) for a patch that was advertized as a bag bug fix.
The sad part is that it was more than a patch, and it wasn't advertized as such, if it had been I probably would have gone and checked.

Their crappy processes allowed this to go through.  That is absolutely QA's fault, and the fault of the douchebag who pushed this through without proper understanding of their spaghetti code.

I have no clue how they let this through, alot of the quests in the game something feels off soon after you step in, whether its stuff chasing you, DA jumping up etc.

My fave part was how someone noticed there was some file downloads on Lammania, asked on the forums what changed and if there was anything they should look at and got no response.

Do you expect anyone on the Turbine team to be on the forums on a weekend? The more I think about what they did, the more my brain hurts from the stupidity.

Serious question to MajMal.

Do you guys even try to follow a process model (e.g., Capabilty Maturity Model) or is everything strictly fire fighting mode?

If the latter, you are doomed to forever chase your tail and ultimately fail hard.

If the former, you better get your bosses to buy in hard and quick because you are doing nothing but screwing the pooch with your current ad hoc procedures.

It's just that they literally made a change that fucked the game. Released it on a weekend with no-one around to say anything, *after* the date they said that 'Lammania testing would finish' (the TP thing was until 28th, which is when they said they were wanting people to test until) and then rolled it out a couple of days later, apparently with no knowledge of what had happened (the fact that when people started reporting it on the forums it came as a surprise)

Many things they had done up to this point (apparently) was to 'get rid of the old Turbine' with relation to how Lammania/QA/Feedback was handled and they literally threw it all out the window in one single fuckup. Other stuff has been screwed up in the last few months, but most people understood, coding is hard, could have been missed etc. BUT THEY BROKE THE FUCKING WALLS, ALL OF THEM. How do you not notice that unless you did no testing at all. In which case, who the hell made the change and (I can only assume) didn't think it important enough to mark it as needing to be tested.

Dev Change Report:
Problem: Door is broken.
Solution: DELETE ALL THE FUCKING WALLS, THAT WILL SHOW THEM.
End result: Door is fixed.

I can't possibly believe any internal testing was done with the final live version.  Maybe as a result of the "intensive" grind to push out the expansion.

They are claiming this release was on Lamania . . . I guess it's our fault for not testing right?

They must really have no internal testing, imagine the colossal fuckups we're going to see when the expansion hits.

Oh god, the MOTU content is in a closed beta. We're stuck praying for a small group of fuckwits to find all the gamebreaking bugs

Oh well, at least it was more entertaining than burning $80

This is so true, it's silly.

If I could do targeted testing, I would.
As it was, I stumbled in there with the hope of some free TP and found that both the "Construct Essence" feat no longer worked if you logged out dead and then logged back in dead (until you logged out again, same as it was in 12.something) and there were HUGE problems with ranged geometry...apparently their fix for that was to...break walls? Semi-logical I guess if terrain is causing problems, but for crying out loud, tell us what you're TRYING, EXACTLY, and don't leave anything out.

The playerbase in general knows the existing bugs better than any new staff ever will, and there are far more people in the playerbase than there are people on the QA staff.

This tight-lipped shit has to go.
