And some of us are used to do troubleshooting on complex systems. That is we do it for a living.
( or we fix such broken things for a living )

So we know that noting and describing all the steps to reproduce a bug are important, we know that a fucking bug can hide another fucking bug, and that usually when you squash 1 bug there's 5 more that appears some'where else.

If there was a bit of trust between the QA Kobold Tribe, The Devs and the Community ( well maybe not the whole community but a good part of it ) bug hunting would be :
- fun
- actually a real bug hunt and not the joke it is at the moment

The problem with Lamania is that only a few players are willing to go there and spend time there.
There's no real incentive to do it ( ok, now they have event given TPs, but seriously that won't cut it in the long run. ),

Have they actually awarded any TPs yet?  Haven't seen a post from anyone that won TPs from Lam testing.

Supposedly they have... now I too didn't see anything official saying that somebody received live TP for being there in Llama-land.

I would have shown up to test more on lamannia if everyone got something for being there, like some amount of tp/day for our live accounts instead of this "chance" at 250 crap.

I haven't heard anything about anyone winning tp either.

I'm guessing the chance thing is a means to get around quasi employment issues, given turbine points could be said to have a real life monetary value.

Anyone got theirs? I was too busy to really test in the end but am curious about the likely percentage.

There's some tard on the other forums telling someone that they basically can't complain about bugs unless they themselves spent xy time on Lama Cheesy

So I asked him since when do we get paid to beta-test, and he got all high and mighty and said a friend of his got 2500 TP from lama Grin

I got 1000 TP from Lammania, Terebinthia. Was a rather nice surprise, I wasn't expecting any.

Maybe give anyone who reports a new bug that Turbine hadn't yet found a Seeker Tap of Spellsight.

If they would just post that new code was available to download and what it did, I would have hopped on and tested more.

Somehow, it is almost our fault for not seeing an update and finding this very-hard-to-detect-yet-every-fucking-player-on-the-live-server-found bug.

There was a 250 random prize and grand prizes of three 250 codes.

Even though Maj hates me, I randomly won some points for testing on April 25th.

If I was on the east coast, I would really look at working for Turbine and straightening this crap out - I don't want to head to Kuwait or Afghanistan for a year+  Cry.

^This.

The lack of transparency is freaking horrifying.

A little more communication about precisely what was being worked on would have me testing FAR more regularly.

As it stands, mostly I log in and discover that bugs from several handfuls of patches ago are rearing their ugly heads once again because apparently turbine can't fucking figure out version control.

This is just a patch.

I need to reup my popcorn supply for when the expansion hits.

MM just has to admit that you can only polish a turd but so much. Well, either that or admit he and his department suck donkey balls post mortem.

Heh! They can polish this Turd until its a brilliantly gleaming kernel of corn but it will still be shit.

Some choice nuggets that should've been addressed first.

1) Targetting for all characters.  Loosen the Cone of Sight or whatever so only stuff behind us is "Not Being Faced"

2) Handwraps. Cannith Crafted Handwraps. Handwraps + DT effects. Handwraps and Arti Buffs.

3) and maybe ladders (but I jump on these anyway)

4) Make the Crafting Hall and Raid Instances have dedicated seperate physical servers that are NOT shared with regular quest instances and public instances.

A sanitized change log would be nice. Like the recent Abbot Tiles mess up. If the we got a change log on Lam that read -

Fixed handwraps bug related to cannith crafiting
Cleaned up Abbot tile coding
Fixed ladder bug in Von 5

That would give us something more to look at without giving out super secret stuff maybe.. I dunno.

Actually, I haven't encountered the ladder bug even once since the physics change. They may have (unintentionally I assume) fixed it.

Then again, there's a new bug where you can end up sliding down a ladder when trying to jump onto it.

Their crappy processes allowed this to go through.  That is absolutely QA's fault, and the fault of the douchebag who pushed this through without proper understanding of their spaghetti code.

You know, I didn't really consider that.  It isn't OUR job to test their game.  We just do so because we enjoy the game, are passionate about it, and don't want the next blunder ruining our fun.

One guy in QA playing a couple of quests on the borked version ought to have noticed that something was awry.  "Duh, why's the dungeon alert already going off in Genesis Point?  We might have a problem."

So, I'll give you that.  Still... last minute adds to code make Maj's job a nightmare.  If he's feeling good on a build, and then they add something... well - I don't envy his job.  I imagine a "weekend" might be a very small window, especially when I would be willing to bet that 95% of his resources are testing the shit out of MotU right now.

I got a total of 6 250 codes.  Three for one day each and another 3 for another day.  After that I gave up on the whole thing and assumed it was typical Turbine "Customer Relations".  I probably would have spent more time on Lama without such gimmicks.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody work in an industry where QA (software in particular) has any real say over what get shipped and when it will ship (by virtue of tests passed, not in meetings planning the schedule although they tend to be ignored anyway)?  Sure, there are some places where regulations and contracts require certain QA followed (less applicable for software), but on a whole why does everyone think that the Major gets to decide what features he will allow to ship and decides when the code will go live?  It makes for great vault venting, but the idea is comical.

Wait till Warner ships one of their geniuses to make Turbine profitable, if they haven't yet already.  Then things will really get fun.

Yes, but we're a mom and pop shop. One of the reasons I've advocated either slowing down and taking smaller chunks per update, or at least being more thorough about their reporting on what they did every time they upload a change so we can dog-pile on the new aspects. Fuck the free TP, I just don't wanna keep seeing this shit slip through. (In fairness, I doubt they do either, but at some point, when you've hit disaster after disaster, you've gotta start admitting that the common element isn't all the different stuff done differently.)

Not now, but I worked in a place with a lifetime guarantee that did.  If QC said stop, they shut everything down until it was fixed.  It didn't happen often, but it did happen occasionally.

My wife was the Environment, Health and Safety person for two different facilities for two different drug companies.  She's now the Environment, Health and Safety person for an industrial manufacturer.  She has production shutdown authority today and had it at both drug companies.  She's never had to use that authority, but at least part of the reason why she's never had to use that authority is that she can say, "Are you going to fix this or am I going to have to shut down production?" when something seriously bad is going on.  Not every facility grants that authority to their Environment, Health and Safety person, but she has said that she wouldn't work at a facility that didn't.

Edit:  She has mentioned that she could potentially be fired if she stopped production for a reason that wasn't appropriate.  Even in such a case, however, she would be fired after the issue was reviewed and after the production line had been stopped on her say-so.
