Just found out about this & am starting to get hooked - competitive RTS (and I am an RTS'er at heart).
F2P as well - about 2 years old, no storyline mode, just good ole fashion pvp & pvBot

How is it?  Can you be a casual player that does not drop money on it, but has decent twitch skills and compete, or is there a strong P2W or grind to it?

I stopped playing DDO about 3 months ago and been playing other MMOs but always willing to try out a new F2P.

Theres a range really, some heros you definitely need some twitch skills, others none really at all.

There really isnt a grind, since its mainly PVP. There is a small like 10 min or so grindish type at the beginning of the games to farm gold from minions, but while doing that the opposition is there harassing and trying to kill you and vice versa. At about the 15-20 min mark its just about all pvp.

There are a couple diff types of games too, most people play 5v5 standard, but theres a capture point type of game and a 3v3 as well.

Yeah they busted thier DB on the last patch they dont want to tax the db servers with excessive logins. They are throttling the amount of people that can log in at a given time. They had the login wait time down to less than 30 min last night.

Hopefully they get this under control and can go back to reg logins.

In ranked its really more shen, morg, soraka, kassadin mainly. Rammus has been nerfed hard and rarely gets banned. You need to OWN 16 chars now in order to play ranked. The free week chars are no longer allowed in ranked. This is a good thing as people no longer "test" chars they dont own in ranked.

Another bit of information, do NOT buy and runes until lvl 20, you will never use the tier 1 and tier 2 runes after lvl 20, it really doesn't take that long to get to lvl 20 either. That's the best bit of advice i received when I started.

I am getting to the point in game where I am only pathetic & no longer just painful to watch.

Yeah it takes a while, im at about 1250 ELO and dont expect to leave it in the near future. I need to get much better at farming and map awareness before I'll be able to drag myself up from there.
