Is it just the 20th completion that's broken or the entire raid?

I need to know whether I'm going to actively avoid the raid or simply not run it because there is no group interested in it.

If it's what I've heard others talking about, the Abbot himself doesn't spawn.

I can see how that might make the raid more difficult.

Wonder what's so special about Abbot and the coding that EVERY update breaks it or changes it in some form or another.

Abbot pushes a lot of different game systems to their limits and it's old. Tiny changes anywhere in the game engine will have a tendency to break it, much less the long tradition of devs fucking with Abbot itself just to fuck with it.

This time, it's not just abbot. There are a myriad of other broken quests with missing monsters/objects.

So far, the list is ToD, Finding the Path, Sins, Abbot, and Outbreak. Apparently, Into the Deep is now also missing some of their npc drow slaves, but that's just an optional so no one really cares.

Soo... before the update there were random extra kobold spawns.  Now after the update stuff isn't spawning?  Sweet.

Abbot shows up on normal but doesn't spawn on hard.

Not like anyone ran it on hard, seeing how the hard chest had less chance for raid loot.

Uh, no.  Hard was a great difficulty for loot.  Probably the best.

Tajuh probably never actually ran the raid (or is on a weird server), but last I checked the hard loot tables were actually worse than the normal loot tables for base items. Go look it up.

Sarlona exclusively runs hard pretty much though. The people who are capable of regularly completing Abbot mostly want the seals, not the base items.

Right, so why would anyone run normal?

Looks like when you try hard abbot he says fuck you to turbine and goes off to have a beer and smoke a fat one with his hard ToD buddies.

He shows up on elite though dunno about Tod elite.

Oh and for fun and giggles the rocks don't always want to break the roids on elite and so sometimes you run out of damn rocks if it happens to often, and i don't think its a lag issue.

This is what I assume on a programmer's perspective.

They reuse the codes, and they changed the reused codes without regression testing (testing of existing functions).

I think the new mobs / boss in the new update spawns on some triggers, and they changed it to cater for the new quest. Changing it affected the old working function, like the Abbot (and others).

This is really a sloppy way of coding.

ie, they are using a fucking spaghetti bowl of code and they need to rewrite their nearly 7-year-old game.

I would hope that there is some way to take a named routine and look up what parts of the code actually call that routine.  That way, when you make changes to a routine, you can see what you're fucking with.

It's obvious that no one at Turbine uses any tool like that if one does exist.

Of course I don't know exactly know how DDO is coded, but I can't help but wonder, why does an old raid mechanics affected by changes on a completely separate update?

Let us assume that they have a spaghetti code, I am thinking, just don't touch that existing bowl, make another bowl of spaghetti.

I am again assuming that they are reusing the existing codes, you know, either laziness, lack of proper resources, etc.

Oh well.

Step 1: reuse existing code
Step 2: think of awesome new idea for new raid
Step 3: change existing code that is called by multiple raids to implement that new idea
Step 4: act surprised when the change fucks up the previous raids.

Please note the lack of
Step 3a: check previous uses of that code to make sure they still work.

Why make another bowl?

Just start over and make sure when you pull at the code in one spot, it doesn't cause a completely different area to move.

0.01% * 5 = 0.05%

They gave us a fivefold increase! What more do we freaking want???

They don't want too many people getting dopants for fear somebody might actually use one and discover Greensteel decon doesn't actually work...

Wiping ToD rings does work.  I bought a dopant from the store during the 5 minutes it was up yesterday.  Best 395 TP I ever spent.
