So this grindfest item was already basically shit, since it never really competed with the Epic Cloak of Night.  Swapping between these was always more like a lateral move than anything else.  And now, given the new augment system, it is has been totally obsoleted.

So Feather of Suck Balls introduces shit gear which requires a shit grind for BtC mats and then obsoletes that shit gear almost immediately.

He's very good at his job.

I so wanted one of the collectable cloaks until Mabar hit.  They're still good situationally, but Mabar's got it beaten for my characters.

I don't think there's a single challenge cloak that can be remotely justified anymore.

Correct.  FoS is so good at designing loot.  And by "good at designing loot" I mean "sucking at designing loot".  FoS is great at designing loot.  And by "great", I mean "fucking stupid".

Well, not all hope is lost.

I have read that FoS wants to add some random effects to those cloaks.

I like having the 3% dodge wolf cloak on hand when I pull aggro.

Other than the grindfest the item is kinda nice for a monk tank.

9 extra PRR
6 stacking DC to combat feats
20 extra threat gen

I'm sensing an immanent closing of a challenge.

The grind is crazy.  The mats should be BtA like the cannith mats.  The cloak of the dragon is still one of only 3 sources of spell mastery +2.  (The other being the brand new Tablecloth and the Wizard Ward).  The tablecloth does create high competition for the cloak.  Especially considering how many sources there are for the other effects.

The Bear and Wolf cloak are decent, but, again, are just not compelling enough in most cases.  I do like the wolf cloak for a source of 3% dodge at the 2nd tier.

All 3 need a revamp of features to stay relevant.  Most all the cannith items could use a pass as well or an ML 24 tier added to get them a little extra oomph.

There's one more.  The Epic Staff of Inner Sight.  But DC casting is dead in EE content, and you don't need a high DC to dominate in EH.  It's also easy enough to slot +2's in your two primary schools without Spell Focus Mastery.  In any case, I doubt I'll opt for any of these cloaks on a caster.  I do have the Epic Elite Wizard's Ward, of course.

Challenge cloaks are much less of a grind since U17.  The 10 minute druid challenge rewarded 714 components, and the 5 minute version was half of that.  So they bumped rewards approx 100%.  Haven't checled the other ES challenges yet.

I grinded out 3 dragon cloaks and 1 wolf cloak prior to U17.  Hardest part is finding a few other people who give a fuck.  Not because their DPS is needed, but so they can keep your ass awake.

And I'll be grinding out a bear cloak once my juggernaut caps.  Just in time for U18 to introduce +6 combat mastery augments...

Ran a few with Slug yesterday.

The tree ones in ES give a nice amount of mats; ~700 each run.
The rituals are also somewhere in that area but are a PITA to keep the asshole in the middle alive. If you snooze off a bit the dumbass dies.

The arenas, however, are still in the penis-in-a-meatgrinder area averaging at 400 per.

Just as an FYI, there is currently a bonus to challenge materials being awarded. They likely didn't do a goddamned thing to the challenges, except turn that bonus on.

I was running the sunset ritual on 26 in a pug last night and it was giving about 200 per run.  You could easily have run it at a higher level though.  Would probably take about 6 runs, or an hour plus fucking around time, to get all the ingredients needed for a tier-3 cloak.  Do that x4 for the four different ingredients, so all together you could grind out a T3 cloak in an evening.  That doesn't seem too horrible.

I still really like the Cloak of the Wolf.  The only other place to get the +5 exceptional seeker is on the bracers of twisting shade, and they're otherwise pretty shit except as a swap item for traps.  Mabar cloak is nice, yes, but the ghostly and dodge effects are available a few others places.
