I haven't really been in the TR discussion, this is one of those I just let the devs handle, I know a third rail when I see it. But...this whole thing is WAY off in the future. They are talking about it now for people's reaction to ideas, and their thoughts on it. I know...radical right? Make your case, but raor Turbine wants this...it's just not the way this place works. Be aware tho...old time MMO designers always always think about power curve, exploits and crap before fun. I don't know why, but that is how they have been conditioned to think...this game, LOTRO, WOW, SWOTR...any of the last generation MMO's.

As far as end game-- I hear you loud and clear. Sadly mandate for the past year has been other things...and from my side 11 months of cleaning up after MotU kept me from talking about any sort of direction or new/revamp stuff...all they heard from me is Blargh fix stuff!

How much would it cost for me to get you to punch jerry right in the dick?

I capped ED xp a long time ago - if I could re use this XP to start the next 20 lives at level 11, then I'd be all for it. Wiping out all that grind for no good reason might actually lead to me stopping playing - and i'm premium with everything bought for TP, so it'd take a lot - and frankly, swapping 55 ED levels for 1.1 mil heroic XP (which is frankly fast anyway) is simply not fine in the slightest.

Edit:

Here's a wacky idea about things like this - why not have an actual idk say google hangout discussion about things like this instead of the forum vitriol all the time, or, oh, follow yourselves and get a players council going that picks people at random from the active userbase, to avoid the yes men (chai, shade, thrudh et al) taking it over? You know, like LOTRO has . . .

Your post was epic.

He's not a dev.  Nobody thinks his word means shit.  He's utterly ineffective at his job.  Why is he even employed?

I talked with the guys from the hangouts the other day, the thing is that they are all casual players, one told me that its posible to make a video with opinions about things like this from a more hardcore gamer perspective and they could include it in the hang out maybe even invite him to it.

I'm glad my post was epic. I hate having to log on to post. It took 43 fucking pages (yes, I read every post except for Fawngate. That guy is a fucking weirdo) for me to finally say something.

This is why the DDOVault needs a Podcast.

You didn't get it. Actually sit down and flappy mouth with players about things like this as opposed to forums posts with wild speculation that rarely if ever gets addresssed and then, given their track record ends up with people expecting things to be completely shit.

Just in general. But specifically, I told him this change isn't all bad, since he can have a memorial parade in NWO when DDO dies.

Yeah, I just saw that a few mins ago. Hysterical!

I hope he reacts but I'm fairly certain he'll hit the "Piss And Moan" button instead and just report you.

Here's the thing about 'end game' vs 'tr game': The cold, hard fact is either one is repeating content. With the old system of half the quests set to levelcap difficulty, and levelcap rewards, that extended the range of available repetition. This new approach pretty much mandates going back to the old school 'release new content rapidly or die'.

I'd be willing to bet that half the disgruntlement with the enhancement revamp, or proposals to alter TR, is that most of us recognize on some level that the kind of pace needed to do new quests of real quality that don't amount to simple rehashes and reskins just isn't sustainable for the current crew, so we turn to emphasizing new ways to run (or break, depending) the things.

I don't think you understand just how much players despise the destiny grind you folks rolled out.  Players don't despise heroic leveling, however.  Heroic leveling doesn't force them to play as gimps through millions of XP.  When are you all going to realize that we don't like to be forced to grind up trash destinies that provide us with little or no benefit?  The system is abysmal and needs to change before you ever try to wipe our destinies clean.

I think what you originally thought (or wanted) was that players would level up a class, then level up the appropriate destiny for that class, and then immediately TR into a different class, level up, and then level up the appropriate destinies for that class, etc...   Or something like that.

That would have been a magnificently stupid thing to want players to do, of course.  We don't like playing just one toon, you know.  And you can't expect most of your players to ever want to be completionists.  We like to have a lot of different toons, all of which can be good without turning them all into darn completionists.

Why don't you instead do something like base the maximum number of destinies you can have off the number of lives a toon has?  Say that you can "hold" four destinies per life.  This will force toons to go to Legend status before they can unlock all the destinies (it forces an additional grind, and it's a grind people don't HATE).

(This change could even be retroactive.  If you have all destinies unlocked, but not the requisite number of past lives to hold them, you get to select which wants you want to activate, and then you have to go TR to unlock another four.)

Then, and in addition to the above (and this is mandatory), ease the pain of leveling in off destinies somehow.

Here's a proposal as to how to do that.  Give us another set of "twists" (but more of them), and base the number of these "twists" off the number of lives a toon has.  These new "twists" (call them "shwists" if you like) will have one purpose, and they are totally distinct from current twists. They will let you slot ED abilities for use WHILE leveling in an off destiny.

So for example, if I have three past lives, for four lives total, let's say I get access to five "shwists".

Now let's suppose I'm a melee who has capped Legendary Dreadnaught, but has no ranks in Magister.  I want Magister, but it royally sucks to level it.  While I'm leveling Magister, I can shwist anything I want from Legendary Dreadnaught up through tier 5 at any time.*

This means that as a Magister, and given my number of past lives, I can slot five Dreadnaught abilities to assist with the pain in my melee's ass that is leveling Magister.

If you did all this, and THEN compensated us for our epic XP in something like the manner you suggested, I could see you being able to start pulling off destiny wipes with EPIC TR's---*not* Heroic TR's, don't go there!

*If you don't like me being able to do it "at any time", make it so that I can "shwist" a Tier X ability from Dreadnaught at Magister Tier + 2.  Effectively, once I have unlocked Tier III Magister abilities, I could "shwist" the Tier V Devastating Critical from Dreadnaught.

After U20, you can only bind 1 ED to the toon and keep that ED XP. Everything else will be reset to zero.

And you can't even do that on a heroic TR, its all gone

I'm afraid you must be in the dark too then.  We were told in the forums that it was for Update 20 and that it would release THIS YEAR.  So we are looking at 3-6 months, which is I wouldn't think is very long if a major change of approach is indicated.

Why in the fuck are you not in charge of marketing as well. I have no ED's, so I have stayed out of the argument since I have NO iron in this fire.

I just don't get what the maggots over there are thinking to come out with Glin's OP, (which I did appreciate the opportunity given to the players it affects by bringing it out early mind you) then the follow up post(s) re-iterating that people were fucked, they were getting nothing for what they rightly earned, if not paid $$$ to make things faster, to a tangible option that let's everyone get what they are after.

Dev's get epic TR with what they want. Players that made the grind already do not have to do so again (assuming I read it right that players can use their ground out exp at any time, in any way they choose, even if it is to work like an otto stone only for the ED grind.....And you know you are coming out with an epic version of otto's stone in the future anyway).

They can learn a  Smileylot over there from a dummy.

Note to any Turbine staffers reading this, and one I genuinely hope you share around the office: DDO has become a shit game because y'all have made it a shit game. Once it was great. Now, it's a festering puddle of monkey diarrhea. No matter how you try to justify it, or pat yourselves on the back for doing great jobs... it's a shit game now because of you. Y'all keep on giving the players the middle finger, and you keep expecting us to reward you for the abuse. I've had it with you narcissistic fuckwads and your myopic policies of ineptitude.

Maj: The problem is not with whatever new system you come up with (or at least, not the big problem). The big problem is that you have tons of players with tons of characters with tons of capped or near capped EDs. If your new system involves ED xp loss in any way, this mountain of existing xp needs to grandfathered in somehow. You cannot just wipe out that much playtime, most of it soulless grinding.

If you just announced that any capped EDs as of the time this change goes live would become locked in, you would eliminate 99% of the rage.

Yeah, not sure why the devs seem to be against it. They will come around. Those of us that read/listen to the forums knew this wave was coming. Personally..I'm in the 'no new systems' camp, lets just build fucking cool stuff. Systems is where everything...EVERYTHING breaks. The guts of this game are super fragile...more fragile than anything I've ever worked on...so screw it, lets just make epic dungeons like Myth Drannor(pre 4E), and the Undermountain, and Barrier fucking Peaks. Big rooms with 12 dragons, revenge of the Titans who eat Giants for brunch, and finish the Underdark as a true epic 10 hour dungeoncrawl like it should be.
Hell invade Evening star with Mind flayers and have the flying cats turn out to be long lost alien spellcasters from beyond take over.
