DDO 2014 tribute FRQ1 Haunted Halls of Eveningstar

Print Post
Aaron Campbell the new Franchise Director for DDO posted on the DDO forums "Confirmed, our tribute module is Haunted Halls of Eveningstar. Expect this to be at a higher level than the original module." This is scheduled to be released as part of update 21 in early 2014.

This update shows some promise. It is an old Ed Greenwood module from 1992. I am sure it will get Turbined down in size and content but perhaps it will still turn out better than the shovelware that has been fed to us in the last few updates. If this was in the works I wonder why it was not the basis for the expansion. I would think that Ed Greenwoods name would of been marketing gold in promoting and selling the xpac.

The original module description reads:

"Welcome to the picturesque village of Eveningstar, nestled at the foot of the Stonelands where the River Starwater winds down a gorge and snakes into the King's Forest.

Here, the Knights of Myth Drannor began their famous adventures. Here, the Ladies of the Brazen Blade, The Company of the Singing Sword, The Steel Shield Band, and many others came, clutching royal charters from King Azoun with the ink scarcely dry on the parchment. Some fell, some went on to greatness - but they all came here first: here, to the Haunted Halls.

Despite numerous infiltrations, the Halls have not yet yielded all their secrets or treasures. Many dangers lurk as deadly as ever in dark chambers herein, awaiting new companies of eager-eyed adventurers.

Is it your turn to dare The Haunted Halls? Many come, but few survive to again see Eveningstar's beauty."

A quick search turned up a download of the original module at ftp://libgen.org/comics1/_RPG%20books/Forgotten%20Realms%20(TSR)/Forgotten%20Rea...

I actually need to check, but I suspect I have it too... if not I'll just borrow it from the shelves of a friend, he definitely has it.

And it could have been worse... they could have sent us to Homlet...  Wink

If Aaron actually made this happen, then kudos to him. DDO needs alot more FR material.  Ed Greenwood is a great source platform to launch from.

Considering Turbine is investing in the new player experience in The Harbor revamp, don't expect to see FR lowbie land any time soon.  DDO has a glut of low level content for TRing and IMO doesn't need more.  FR would be a great place to add level 17-19 content where content is really thin, and plays into the advancement path of iconics starting at level 15.

A very good start to some new content.  Hope they raise the level to 15+ with epic variants.

Maptools is a nice program. I played Hackmaster once a week using Maptools a couple of years ago. The GM lived in England and would wake up at 5am his time to run it.

So far I've only read summaries of it,  but it sounds like low level stuff similar to the harbor.  I know there is nostalgia for this pack but at the moment I don't see how it will translate to a good high level pack.

Reading the link right now but I'm extremely skeptical on this idea.

I still think it might be a replacement for Korthos/Harbor

The next expansion is outside of Eveningstar.

It is possible that we are locked into Cormyr for FR stuff though.

I bet that they probably have to stay off the sword coast to stay out of the way of Neverwinter.

Well with the Spellplague and the cataclysms linked to it, Neverwinter has more or less been ripped off the Sword Coast... ( Well it is just extremely difficult to reach Neverwinter and the surrounding )
At lest that's how I parsed the FR D&D Game Books I bought.

Anyway, they don't have reasons to expand to the Sword Coast yet, when there's so many things to do around Cormyr. Look at what we have on the Eberron side, we are on Xendrik and all the other continents are not an option.

As for the FR stuff, logically it would be a 10/15 thing... I'll even expand it to 7-15, that way we can get Veteran II straight in the Realms.

I dont understand this desire to skip the low and mid levels. Turbine started this with vet4, then vet7. It didn't stop there though, stones of xp to skip 8-16(19), iconics starting at 15.

Maybe turbine will just delete levels 1 through 14, making everyone iconics. Dont worry though, they will find a way to charge you 50$ for this 'enhancement'  Wink

Turbine could easily accomplish that by starting TRs at a higher level than 1.  TR+7 heart + Bigby XP stone = $$$$$$$$$.

I'm pretty sure they thought of that already:
