Where the hell is this game going?

I just curious where people think the devs are taking DDO?  It seems like raiding and raid loots are getting deemphasized.  It looks like they are making it easy to get the base "epic" named items and even the EE versions seem to be dropping more frequently, albeit with the lottery properties.  Are they are moving towards a grind out destiny model rather than grind out gear, which is perhaps a better more varied model, but I am not convinced it's going to hold people's interest.  Having been away from the game for almost a year, my perspective is skewed.  All the changes in loots and lootgen has my head spinning...   All in all, without raids and upper tier raid gear I don't see things working...  Tspoon

On it's current course this game is headed towards death, can it change who knows, but this "expansion" doesn't make me too optimistic.

Why ask this now?

Turbine doesn't even know where the game is going, nor have they since I joined.

Looking back, it's rather obvious there's never been a long term plan, DDO has been going forward with short term plans that constantly change with staff.

And when any of those short term plans serendipitously and unexpectedly work out (TR as endgame, ED grinding), they shit all over it by promising to invalidate years of player effort with things like their "epic" TR.

Note to any Turbine staffers reading this, and one I genuinely hope you share around the office: DDO has become a shit game because y'all have made it a shit game. Once it was great. Now, it's a festering puddle of monkey diarrhea. No matter how you try to justify it, or pat yourselves on the back for doing great jobs... it's a shit game now because of you. Y'all keep on giving the players the middle finger, and you keep expecting us to reward you for the abuse. I've had it with you narcissistic fuckwads and your myopic policies of ineptitude.

This is all because every dev here is like a selfish child with absolutely no vision, just the constant need for validation.
Why work as a group to achieve something meaningful when you can be an attention whore and piss all over everyone else's content? Also, why dress in anything other than (un)fashionable scarfs & ridiculous hats..

I saw a dev post once that there plan was to next year stop at lvl cap 30 then focus on everything in between after that.
Seems solid planning to me. Especially when each dev gets to pick and pull apart an aspect of the game and make it in there own version.

Towards extinction.

Some of the developer had free reins with the previous producers and did develop their pet projects to make DDO more mainstream. ( Trash Loot better than named loot, Random stuff on loot, Enhancement Crash, Impending E-TR Doom, ED Tree/circle format )

The problem is they didn't look at the people playing the game... And didn't notice that we don't care about being mainstream, and actually we are better off not being mainstream.

At least Rowan showed some cojone by stopping the E-TR Doom before it was too late.
Now let see if he has enough cojone to kill, fix and/or rollback some of the idiocy done during the last two years. ( like stopping to raise level cap until he has rebuilt a complete endgame worthy of farming and prepared an endgame worthy of farming once he raises the cap again. And no endgame worthy of farming is not 10ish quests, it's 10ish raids and 20+ quests )

I fully agree, but it's "cojones" not "cojone" (cojon=testicle, cojones=testicles, balls, eggs...)  Wink

Spoon, I agree with you.  Back when the cap was 20 and ToD king, the game made sense.  You had TR'ing for past lives, you stayed at cap to grind epic loot or raid loot.  You ran ToD, Shroud, Vod, Hound, Reavers, Abbott, eVon, eDQ, eChrono and some 6 man epics.

There was something for everyone.  Some minor modifications to the seal/shard/scroll system would have been all they needed to do.

Instead they totally screwed it up by moving the cap to 25 too quickly when there wasn't the content to support it.  Although lack of content isn't really the biggest problem.  The ease with which you can obtain loot is.  Dropping fully completed Epic items at a 10-20% drop rate is too easy.  Giving away the EN version on end rewards/3rd completion runs is too easy.  Making everything unbound is too easy.  (I'm a huge fan of BtAoA).  Combine all that with a power leap instead of power creep in the loot power and you have massive problems.  You are giving away loot in 1-3 runs that is 2-3 times as powerful as loot that used to take 40-60 runs to acquire.

It makes your game casual in a hurry because there's just not much to do after a few weeks.  It only leaves you with the TR/XP grind path.  And, if that's not your thing, then you get bored.  There's not something for everyone anymore.

Going from 20 to 22 and then adding 2 levels every six months or year would have been better.

Yup, that worked fine for 10 to 12, then for 12 to 14, and 14 to 16...

16 to 20 worked fine too because Amrath was tough and VoD/HoX were located in a raid explorer
( by the way anybody ever got all the explorer locations there at level )

The raises beyond 20 were too fast and too much...

Cap increases at 21-22, 23-24, 25-27, and 28-30 would probably have worked better.

Long term 30 cap might save DDO. Emphasis on might.

If there's something left to save...

People are leaving by bucketful because they can't be arsed to respect their characters and because all their gear is obsolete and they can be arsed to regrind everything... if they could be arsed to spend hours respeccing 20+ toons.

I really like the High Road, Stormhorns, Kings Forest, Schindlryn, and Underdark explorer areas.  There's something about Wheloon prison that bothers me, not sure what it is.   Same is true of the Demonweb.  It annoys me and I find myself moving on rather than bothering to get everything.

It was a pain to reespec all my toons. The lowbies are all sitting there waiting for me to decide on new classes and stuff.

I think the only toons that caused me any concern were the triple classed ones where the +20 wasn't going to get the job done in one pass.  In some cases, it takes two LR's because of the 3 class limit.

I will weigh in as a currently casual player  Smiley

Of my 10 toons, I have done 5

1 is a fix of a completely broken mule so I don't hate it (still a mule)

1 is a LR of a reasonably simple human pale master

1 is a LR of a melee bard blend that is my multi TR

1 is a stronger melee bard TR that I am running with my running partner

1 is WTF do I do with my classic Exploiter

I am already minimising who needs the LR - i did the throwaway toon, and then the one toon that really needed it - I play a lot of self sufficient melee blends, tbh I am just getting to minimise the damage

Nt making me happy and fluffy, but as far as I an see, Turbine hate competent casuals too...
