Just sketching out a build for heavy crit damage

Saw this post on the other forums about max crit profile builds and it got me thinking about what type of build could take advantage of what's available from a crit-profile standpoint. I wanted to take advantage of the +1 crit range/damage in Exposing Strike so I needed to go 6+ ranger and wanted one with the blade + earth stance so needed 8+ fighter and 1+ monk.

I've got a few ideas of class mixes that could work. 12 fighter/6 ranger/2 monk gives manyshot (but no IPS), a grip of feats, and Power Surge. 11 ranger/8 fighter/1 monk would be down a net of 2 feats - we lose 12 fighter's Greater Weapon Focus, 2 monk's Improved Sunder, and 10 fighter's Quick Draw while picking up gTWF but we could drop something like Power Critical to pick back up Improved Sunder and let the other two go.

Here's the fighter version. I went with Human on this for the extra feat so I could fit in everything I'd like to fit in. Quick Draw is nice here as I'd be planning on Dreadnought for the Headman's Chop to boost Axe of Adaxus to a final x7 on 19-20's - I'd end up with 11 double-boosts per rest and have fireable back-to-back (reduced cooldowns from Dreadnought). Power Crit looks justifiable at x7 damage.

By the way, I left out a ton of AP (only spent 61). There's tons of ways to go with the leftovers - I just filled in the core of the build (Damage Boost from Human for double-boosting, Kensei with just enough for One With the Blade, Tempest to 10% offhand, Shintao to 10% offhand, DWS to Exposing Strike, AA to Summon Arrows). Personally I'd be wanting to pick up some extra boosts (Tempest Sprint and Human Saves would be good ones) and picking up at least +3 Action Surge: Strength in human...possibly Con as well. At epic levels I'd give serious thought to Magical Training 3 from AA - it gets us to Morphic Arrows and gives us Magical Training to boost our sp's, spell crits, and give us unlimited cocoon even when the sp's run out. There's 25 PRR to be had for 12AP between Tempest and Shintao. Lots of options there.

I would probably level this build all the way to dual-adaxus as Piercing and then LR it. Run with dual deathnips up to that point. This build could even stay with the dual deathnips if desired - the crit profile would be better and you'd have the option of running outside of Dreadnaught without hurting the crit profile as much as Adaxus loses when it switches.

Both builds are going to benefit from Heal as a class skill and going to Core 3 of DWS and Core 1 of Shintao when it comes time to twist in Cocoon. We'll probably want to pick up 1 or 2 of the Human Healing amp as well to give cocoon enough kick to keep us standing. The ranger 11 version of this will take Empower Healing at level 24 to boost that healing even more. These are all very important concerns given that until we get to very high levels we'd be hard-pressed to do anything beyond Cure Serious Wounds for self-healing. Our UMD will eventually get to usable levels for heal scrolls with enough gear but it will most likely still require several swaps - anything we can do to boost healing amp or cocoon's power are very critical.

Here's the ranger version. From level 12-19 you'll have gTWF in the level 12 feat - before taking 20 you'll swap it to Improved Sunder and get gTWF auto-granted by 11 ranger.

As mentioned earlier we lose the feats Quick Draw and Greater Weapon Specialization. We lose Power Surge from 12 fighter. We gain level 2 & 3 ranger spells, more ranger spell-casting levels (nice if we're in Dreadnought and want to cast Resist Energy), Empower Healing taken as a level 24 feat, and Improved Precise Shot added to our toolbox. The enhancements are still tight - we can easily fit in the core stuff but there's a lot of nice fluff we could take if only we could fit it all in.

Both versions put off Master of Forms until level 15. My reasoning is that I can't fit in 8 fighter and 1 monk while still getting to 6 ranger (for free iTWF) for centering the deathnips at 14 so I'm not going to bother to run centered for that 1 level. That's why Adept of Forms gets put off until level 9 as well - there's just not enough upside to taking it at level 6. That said, both could be moved earlier if you wanted to put off Power Critical at 6 or Greater Two Weapon Fighting at 12.

I was thinking a melee dorf LD THF Maul build might be fun with Giant's Fist Maul. I wanna hammer the holy crap out of stuff.

A half-dozen boss Vaulties donated generously with real money to my classroom during a fundraiser in May 2015 to get poor kids books to read. I won't forget that. They know who they are, and they freaking rule.

I can't find complete stats on that thing beyond +4 Maul, Impact V, Sundering IX, Dazing IX. What's the crit profile on it? I really love this item from a tactics perspective...both of the builds I posted could be done as 18/2 instead to gain feats at 14, 16, 18 fighter (filling in the TWF line lost from Ranger). You'd obviously lose the archery options provided by each build but you could get a hell of a 'beat things over the head with a big stick' build out of it. I wonder though with a THF weapon whether you're better splashing monk for evasion and earth stance or just staying pure fighter and getting 15% doublestrike. When you're TWF doublestrike isn't nearly as attractive...but for a THF toon that's a flat 15% added to damage output. While monk splashing adds a lot that capstone is flat-out outstanding.

I pulled one last night in the stormhorns endreward. The reg epic item was +6 or 7 2[d10] 19-20 x3 i THINK.

Now that I look at it, it doesn't seem amazing. It may have been 17-20. Now I don't remember. But it just got me thinking that a big fat beatdown with a high crit maul would be hot.

Now that I look at it, Dual Mornhs prolly makes more sense. But, whadda ya do?

What's sad is i took the thunder and lightning wraps instead of that for endreward cause I gjot monks. 8d6 elec AND 8d6 sonic PER HIT.

this whole discussion reminds me how the wiki is behind on U19 loot. Also, it reminds me how much we rely on the few guys who update the wiki...

So true...if DDOWiki's wrong I'm like, "ummm...now what?" Wink

That thread on Peak Damage really pointed out to me just how insane Deathnips are though. I've got a pair on my monkcher right now - 3 past lives in monk, fighter, and ranger...could use a +20 heart to pick up a paladin life or something else and TR to a Deathnip build. It's really tempting right now with all of the boosts they've added in U19 to damage output from crits and in general.

Got a Sireth on that toon too...tempting to go with some Rog/Mnk or Mnk/Rog build and play with that. I could try to fit in QP dc on a mnk-heavy one but then you'd want to be wisdom-based which kind of defeats the purpose of going heavy-crit profile. Sad The Sireth build maybe 13 rogue/6 monk/1 druid with MoF, Emp Heal, THF line, Overwhelming Critical line, Improved Crit, and Precision (for times you need to bypass more fort). Would have to be human or go with monk at level 1 to make the feats work out (since we need to take PA, THF, and Precision on monk levels and we can't take anything else from the list going with rogue at level 1). Humans could add in Dodge or something else from the monk list later and go PA->Clv at level 1.

I used to update the wiki a lot... and then Cordovan sent like 3k TP to one of the wiki contributors just because the guy posted about some part of U19 being "complete" on the wiki. Haven't really done much since. Thanks, Cordovan.

I could cynically fish for TP... or I could just not bother. I think I'll go with the latter.

Cordo probably doesn't know this since he works for Turbine, but introducing extrinsic motivation to something intrinsically motivated is almost always a bad idea.

Actually.. it was 4 codes, 250 TP each. I know because I ate one.

So yeah.. not exactly 3000. If the codes are a reason for you stop contributing to the wiki.. .they really should not.

Personally, I would post more items, if:
1) I owned the expansion (which I don't) (waiting for a discount)
2) Wayfinder AH was not empty

I stopped doing stuff for the wiki, because making screenshots of upgraded items, cropping them to their desired dimensions only to be told 'wah wah you are using a UI skin turn that of next time' surely is the proper way to motivate your contributors right?

srsly who cares if the icon screenshot has a 2pixel black or 2 pixel silver boarder ? the numbers / effects is what matters

I have created a simple procedure of ~25 steps  Cool that you can follow to produce quality pics
http://ddowiki.com/page/User:Cru121

I am using blackbird skin so that should not be a problem.

alternatively, you can upload raw pics somewhere and give me the link to pics (e.g. on my wiki talk page), and I or some other wiki slave would do it.
