I have been thinking about what causes trolls. I am down to the following three main causes:
1) Post Count - people have referenced that you don't get access to the sup3r s3cr3t l33t areas unless you have some arbitrary number of posts. This leads people to make worthless threads and comments in hopes of reaching this number.
2) Boredom (game becoming less fun to play) - They only troll in areas where they get reactions to their trolling. Any response at all (including this thread) feeds them and they sit in their chairs jerking off while reading these responses over and over. Hell, even view counts is enough to encourage them.
3) Competition - everyone likes to think they are good at something. Even if they are sitting in their parents house at 30, with no job, on the interwebs all day. Trolling is something everyone can do with no skill, simply copy/paste the same crap every other troll does as long as it gets a reaction, any reaction.
Anything I missed?
PS: I fully understand 90%+ of the responses will be trolls and in a ironic way, makes this post and me, a troll
I troll here because it's easy and I don't feel like I'm disrupting things that are important. Generally, I don't derail actually important topics, preferring to start my own moronic threads or post in threads that are already useless. Thus, I feel no remorse for the people who click them and get mad.
"OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS "H" THREAD IS USELESS"
Reason 2 is the closest reason. Boredom. Also, i can post while tabbed out into another game, whether that be ddo or not, or even during downtime at work.
Honestly, it's something to do.
Edit: I find reason 1 to be logical, though I don't care. DDO is easy enough that I can't believe people are that interested in super sekret exploitzzzz!
Though I'm a decent guild so I hear about them through voice chat anyhow, so I guess I'm biased in that regard.
