Wish I could say I was ever in charge of it, but my title was Associate Designer- there was always someone else technically in charge, though I did most of the design and implementation for treasure in Updates 14 through 17.
Code for "
Wasn't my fault".

The only projects I ever really owned were my own pet projects- things like augment system, different variants of loot on harder difficulties, and the revamped cosmetic system with equippable cosmetic items.
The cosmetic armor caused problems when deployed to live. You should have tested this.
The different variants of loot potency such as "Ghostbane IV" that are non-evident from the title and can only be revealed by direct inspection of the item sucks. Thanks also for shitting all over the first ice games recipes, BTA lootgen being one ML lower than non-bta, and the ML values of things like Potency and Invulnerability.
The augment slot system does not suck. In fact, "Good Job". Having it come at the expense of Guild augments does suck.

A big part of why I left was due to my frustration with the results of itemization in Update 19 and onward, and the fruitless results of my arguments with the lead designer over it.
If you were peers, it would have been the responsibility of both of you to find common ground. That you were having "fruitless arguments" with your superior indicates a failure on your part to craft a compelling argument AND a disregard for his status as "boss".
Learn to find ways to align your goals with those of the other involved parties. It takes two people to argue.

As you all saw, it eventually got to the point where I went into the office onto a weekend and added new treasure effects and items in myself.
What reasonable person could expect this to go wrong?

Those changes were unapproved, and much of it was pulled out the next week, though I think bits and pieces of it had been filtered back in by DocOct and Melange.
Still, it put PurpleFooz (the lead designer) and I on edge with each-other.
Shocker!

I had it when he told me that the Shadowfell Conspiracy expansion wasn't supposed to be "endgame", since there would be another level cap increase in a year.
How can you release an "expansion" without endgame content or rewards?
I reached the point where the constant arguments weren't worth it, and I decided to look elsewhere.
More code for "
Wasn't my fault", but now with "
see? I said 'Endgame', so you can tell I'm sympathetic and that it really really wasn't me"

I think DDO's senior designers are all good people and are on the right track now. With luck, you'll all enjoy what is coming in Update 21. Steel's raids are badass.
I doubt you'll be hearing any more from me. I'm on my way to California, and from there, will be fully invested in an upcoming online persistent world game. =)
Goodbye!
You are going to continue to have arguments until you accept there may be more than one "correct" way to do something and that other people see and know things that you do not.
Testing your product wouldn't hurt, either.
Most importantly, admit it when you screw up, take ownership of your mistakes, and learn from them. Seriously - it cannot be everyone else's fault every time.
I think your arrogance and self importance were very damaging to the game. Thanks for screwing things up and then leaving in a huff.
