Now that it's gone live and we've all had time to experience it, what do people think of the changes to Secret Door detection?

they will probably congratulate themselves on how long they "kept it going" never able to see that it could have easily managed to keep itself going for far longer if they had just meddled far less drastically and with some semblance of an actual gameplan.

Up to what quest level does crafted detection work, and crafted true seeing is needed?

Eh, mixed feelings here. I do like how it tries to add an element into the game to make some classes more desirable... however... DDO drifted away from being a game that does this long, long ago. Nowadays, it's mainly about solo play with uber builds. Some games are fun when you need a cleric to heal, a tank to draw agro and take the damage, a thief to pick locks, find traps, etc... but DDO isn't like that anymore. So I miss having my tharnes goggles and such find the doors for me.

True Seeing (30 detect) will work through 99% of ENs and seemingly 99% of heroic elite up till level 17s or so. For pre-true seeing the L4 cove spyglass gives 10 mins of 20 detect if you don't want to use up a slot, or ML1 crafted detect item is also 20 detect.

EH/EE requires investment in search. I don't think I've run into a door I can't get with my shiradi wiz's 80 search yet.

It seems to be completely fine from level 1-20. Only at the VERY end of heroic levelling do you really start to not notice doors. It's a little bit of a pain in epics going around a quest on a character with no search but true seeing and being used to getting secret door optionals and bonus xp. It just gives more of a reason to group up with others though, and could create some pretty cool encounters with newer content

Will buying those produce brain cancer on a person that made the new mechanism? I just might go on a shopping spree.

Hate it for EE's makes it a PITA when you don't have someone with a high search.

I don't get the hate personally. Put some points into search, whatever. It might be more of an issue in the future, but any character can hit every current relevant door except a couple in EE Storm Horns.

it will be. this was changed to facilitate new secret door mechanics in haunted halls. to be perfectly honest though, the main reason it was changed was simply due to the fact the current dev's could not code it properly so the entire system was changed.

And the secret door behind the rest shrine in the new Cannith quest - Brothers of the Forge. On EE the DC to find it is over 95, possibly as high as 100.

There is no mystery here.  At the same time they made the secret door changes they also introduced no-fail items in the store (as mentioned by cdr, channeling chai, above).  That was no coincidence.

This was not for "realism", this was not for "fun", this was not for "balanced play" or "party diversification".  This was to sell shit, presumably primarily to new(er) players.

It's already stopped me from running quests the way I used to on more than one occasion.

I know full well what I can do to deal with the situation, but I don't have the time, or patience to LR all my characters and put ranks in search.

It's far easier to hate the change and stop playing.

Stopping to "Search" for a door also really fucks me off.

I'd say "Nice troll attempt" but... it wasn't.  I'll give it a generous 1 out of 10.

They should definitely have more higher-level autofind abilities. There's what, the one in shiradi and that's it?

^ Maybe this.
Or  change the name from true seeing to something else to dispel the false illusion due to name.
