I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but there was a recent change to chat.  Once upon a time, if you typed a really long message in chat, it would stop you after a certain number of characters and you had to hit [enter] to start a new line.  Recently, that changed to a function where the long message will start to eat the beginning characters on your message and get rid of that /r so that your personal response ends up in general chat.

Good times.

Oh yeah.  We've had some pretty hilarious "mis-chats" since this one went live.  It's been going for quite a while tho.

If you notice (from copy and pasting) that you've gotten cut off, you can delete the last five characters or so and backtrack to the beginning to retype in the /g, or /r, or whatever.

This has been happening since well before the enhancement pass.

I've got a screenshot of Varg complaining about the text wrap during the enhancement pass preview.

My memory isn't the best, but I think this broke at around the same time that you had to /showhelmet off every login.

Perhaps the Changed Guard will fix old issues like this.

One Year and a half... It has been that way since MoTU.

It's one of the many broken thing that MoTU brought in Game.

I think this is WAI.

I'm quite paranoiac and I think Turbine did this so I can't modify linked items in chat anymore  Angry

If by "recent" you mean "for the last 18+ months" then yes, I did notice this.

Yeah this is an old change but I do find it annoying when I'm legitimately typing a long message while it's deleting the front sentence(s).

This happens often when I'm trying to overload a new player with basic information like how and what to craft on a green steel as well as providing them several url resources - this sorta stuff always pushes my messages over the limit when I'm not thinking about the limit.

Oh yes. I know of this new change, learned the hard way. I sent a tell to my husband telling him all sorts of naughty things I was going to do to him and it went right the f***; into general chat. In the market place... oh yeah. I am very wary of this change.

Also did you know if you link all of the possibldragon scale armor you could ever have it too goes into the general chat.

I think this may have been to fix a client crash I bug reported way back; reproduction steps were something like:
1. Type a long piece of text
2. Ctrl+Right Click an item with a name long enough to go over the text limit
3. Home then Shift+End (or something)

Really wish they fixed it back to the old way though.

I didn't know about this until today.

Was running a quest with a really nooby favored soul. A friend of mine and I were swapping /tells and he asked me what was going on. So I wrote a long message about how awful this fvs was...and sent it to Party chat just as we were finishing the quest. OOPS!

While he was a noob, he wasn't AWFUL, so I felt kind bad about that. Everyone else laughed, and he owned the fact that he's pretty inexperienced and not very good at the game, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

TL;DR Fucking Turbine!

That is why you switch to a different chat screen - like the guild one so it isnt automatically in party. Alternatively, you could not give a shit and let them know how much they suck with pride.

Classic Epoch.

Well, if they were more than just nooby, I probably wouldn't have cared, but the guy wasn't totally useless, and he was good-spirited.
