Why can't they write their own download software instead of using all this 3rd party bullshit?

Why can't they just slap a torrent up somewhere instead of having us (unintentionally) installing pieceofshitware?

Res

Because most people don't know what a fucking torrent is, much less be willing to use it.  Also, ISP throttling.

The shitty piece of crap is still there in the latest L-Space Download.

They have changed something about it, but it's still there.
( in needs to be uninstalled, so that it can reinstall itself in the new version )

Hey Maj,

Just downloading the new build of Lama now, and it's still there. Worst, the download didn't appear to want to start until I allowed it through Windows Firewall.

I'm going to let it complete, hop in, then delete the whole thing and see if everything's OK.

The new version seems to be a tiny bit safer, since it can runs with firewall rules denying it all traffic up and down.

So you'd better to uninstall the crap and let the game install the new one.
Now if you use pylotro, you can just scrap it.

Now the biggest peeve is that it spawns twice and eat up 8 to 15Mb or RAM and 1/5% Cpu.
As if I didn't have enough and more important shit running and eating CPU and RAM ( let see : BOINC with Seti@home and LHC@home  Roll Eyes )

Scrubbed it and, you guessed it, it installed again when I fired up the Lama launcher. Doesn't seem to have firewall access. But I got three processes kicking around, even after I killed the client.

Not very impressive :/ at least it's not having to go through the firewall now, or at least I couldn't see it in my allowed programs. Le sigh.

it doesn't do any net access now... but it's still 2 more fucking processes on top of the awesomeiumproces.exe ( 1 to 7 ).

And to add insult to injury, they stay there once started... they are not killed when you exit the game.

This is starting to sound like the DRM software EA used a while back with spore. Are those processes actually using CPU time once you shut off the client?

Remember all : Tomorrow is the New Pando Day...

Since we get U 21 we get the Akamai Crapware... That is as far as I know, since nobody has confirmed that it was removed from the Live distribution.

You can use Pylotro.

You can't avoid it, it is going to install itself behind the splash screen and spawn two processes that you will be unable to kill ( they respawn at boot ).

If you uninstall it, the launcher will reinstall it behind the splash screen.
If you lock out the processes, the launcher will crash
If you make the directory it hides in unreadable the launcher will crash.

The only workaround is Pylotro, but I'm not sure it can keep the game up to date.

I did,  uninstalling ddo before the update worked like a charm.

My advice would be to install ddo within a vm (virtual box is free and works like a charm), copy the install out then use alternate launchers.

Sad fucking situation tbh, thus I uninstalled.

No, with the update, it has a license agreement up for Akami, if you don't agree to it, it cancels the update.

Half baked code. Wasn't supposed to be turned on at all. Reverted in the next lama build.

Majmal, maybe I misunderstood this post.

Akamai is alive and well fucked up.

PyLOTRO does bypass it.... I don't know what DDO-ML is, if you point me towards the right downloads I can experiment ( you'll have the results tomorrow at best though )

It will update fine ( that's what I did on Lammania when I first saw it ).

Now Akamai will sneak back behind the launcher splash screen next time you start the launcher.

that's why i asked if DDO-ML will bypass it.  it completely bypasses the splash screen of the launcher... actually it bypasses the launcher TOTALLY... and puts you right at the loading screen just before the character select.

( download the updates )

If not, and if it's not possible with PyLOTRO too we will still have to activate it from time to time when we want to update the game.
