I think there's some overlapping misinformation out there, I'll try to clarify:
The launchers patching is what is using the Akamai code, it is
download only however. The reason the EULA as it is, is being used is because even though a customized version of the application, it still has to use the full EULA from Akamai.
The full Netsession app is used by a significant number of other applications and downloads including games so chances are it was resident on a given system prior to this update but if you are just seeing it now, yes the game does install a
custom tailored version and one that
does not use a significant portion of the features listed in the EULA including
not using peer to peer style uploading.
It is only utilized for patch updating for the new launcher in which it has been integrated. And just in case it was missed here's Cordovan's post reply:
https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5276074#post5276074It is not sending any personally identifiable info to us or Akamai, (it should be noted that Akamai handles a significant portion of internet traffic in general).
to be very very blatant:
i give a friggin crap about what turbine says about the matter nor what anyone says about intentions. What matters is the EULA that HAS TO BE ACCEPTED to be even able to play, even if the game is uptodate.
man, im not really happy about europe or my homeland, germany, but at least until now we have a culture of caring at least a friggin tidbit about privacy and such.
and again, even if it does NOT do any p2p, its still datamining, and friggin dont come with: if you are not a criminal, you dont have to hide anything ...
