I've been in Vent channels with him briefly. Seemed like a mellow guy who enjoys DDO. If he was not a fun person to hang out with, he wouldn't be in that guild. Intel is full of great people who are not necessarily the most uber players on the server (still way better than me though), but they're generally nice people with whom I always have a fun time in quests.

Live and let live. Even with a wide-open wallet, he claimed to have put in 1400 hours. That is still one hell of a grind in 6 months, stones or not. I'd be unable to stone a triple completionist in that time, let alone an epic one as well.

Im interested to know where someone finds 8 hours a day for 6 months to play DDO while also having the money to buy 60+ stones and boxes...

The truly rich - a majority of the time have no job.  When you are wealthy enough you just hire someone to manage your money and because you already own all your possessions there is just upkeep so your bills aren't as extravagant as one would assume.  Most uber-wealthy inherit the fortunes if they choose to do anything it's a choice - not a requirement.  Mind you someone doesn't need to be up in that exclusive club to hit the point where they can do nothing and still have the 2-3 grand it takes to blow on this type of stunt, but that's how it works.

Make enough cash to own your home (now you have no rent - just taxes), your car outright (no monthly payment) and keep enough to pay your bills + spending cash, it's not as much as you'd think assuming you are even modestly frugal (although spending 2-3 grand on a game like DDO points against this).

Just saying.

Most of the people who have enough money that they don't need to work got that way by working without blowing their money on things like this.

A relative did - years ago - sure - maybe.

The Gerber family for instance hasn't worked in 3 generations.  I'm pretty sure the Vanderbilt hasn't had to work for a century or so.

That's just for people who ride on coattails - past that you get princes/kings and royal family - most of the really wealthy Saudi's didn't get rich from working.

Very few people in the US achieve that status - and unless you give all your wealth away (as Bill Gates has said he will do when he dies) at a certain threshold your family will never need to work again - for generations.

It's not that he cant be wealthy and game, it's just that spending a ton of money on a video game doesn't seem to be a trait of a wealthy person - most wealthy people I know are rather tight... unless they can show off... so there I answered my own question. Completely feasible. Grin

One thing for everyone who is a "skeptic" on this issue: Insurance companies are basing their underwriting on the assumption that it is real. They are refusing to write policies on homes that are likely to be in danger from rising seas 20 years from now, even though the resale rate of the homes is so high that they could keep writing policies for another 10 years and still not have to pay out on 1 policy in 5, but that would be irresponsible. Unethical, as well, but that's never stopped anyone before.

I used to play Evony (don't get me fuckimg started, horrible game) and one of the most interesting people I encountered in the splash the cash brigade was an extremely bored housewife. I didn't get it. It wasn't just her, it was active alliance players too. I reckon she dropped several grand on each new server, certainly the ones I knew her from.

And no, I don't get it. But folk like that do exist. A minority though.

Fawn, bless his lovely cotton socks, has a history with drama deletes. The undelete brigade have made a tidy pile of cash.

Ddo means a lot to him and I am sure he will pay for what he feels he needs.

I was farming Quiver in EE Cry for Help, leave boss @ 5%HP and LFM for looters. One of the guy joins and while he's moving thru the quest, opens the side room with lions for no fucking reason and dies forcing me to come save his nub ass. This is a Completionist Wizard PM. Both funny and sad at the same time. After that I always clear that room as well because pugs are unpredictable.

I had this exact thing happen two nights ago.  Late arrival steps in and decided to open a closed door.  Wait, there are mobs behind there?  A good chuckle at least...

OMG i'm having so much fun with this thread.

Why ppl care if the guy bought the fucking pl's?

It's his fucking problem, if he want to post it on the forums, it's his fucking problem. If you dont like just ignore and move on.
All the whinners crying thats not RIGHT are really dumb.

Dear players,

The D&D rules you were familiar with were too simple to understand, so we're continuing our move away from them to needlessly confusing subsystems that will make your play experience less fun and invalidate old builds and loot. We hope you have fun working out what the fuck MRR, PRR, MP, SP, RP, CL, MCL and all the other bullshit we made up whilst drunk means.

Love,

People who don't know how to fix their own mistakes cleanly

If he did and cheated Turbine out of their golds we will see soon enough.  If no banhammer, no profit was lost.  Simple test.

I think probably did spend money.  Nothing wrong with spending money on what you like/love.  Some people do it on a hobby, some on a habit, some on a significant other (or some variation of the 3).  It's what adults do, spend money on shit they like.  I can't understand why the outrage about this?  You could boil down a million things done in the game that are accepted to "spending money" one way or another in order to advance.  Who gives a fuck?

Many folks will spend $2000+ over 6 months on drinking, or smoking, or both, so don't see how the cash is a big deal - unless you're a self-righteous douche canoe like Deadlock.  Throwing your money at DDO may or may not be better than drinking, but it's sure better than smoking.  Now if he had saved it for Vegas and hookers and blow, that would be a different story.

I'd genuinely like to know where the quoted sentiment comes from.  When someone correctly points out that someone is acting like a douche, how can that be interpreted as "hurtsy your fweelings"?
