When I learned that level 30 will be the permanent level cap, I had a very small hunch. Now with these layoffs, that hunch grew bigger. I really hope I'm wrong, but I feel like some time in 2015 will be the start of maintenance mode.

I just had a sad.

In the Flesh is one of my favourite quests in the game.

Rockingdead if you are reading this: fuck turbine for firing you, you made amazing quests and I genuinely hope you find an amazing new job at a superior company.

That is why we canīt have nice things.

Yaulthoon, In The Flesh.

Yes, really shitty move, Turbine.

I don't believe DDO isn't making money. I think DDO pulls in the 6-7 figures every month. But, thats only really enough to support 4-6 full-time people if its true, hence the lay-offs.

You are a dyed-in-the-wool idiot.  truly.  or extremely high.  because smoking killer bud is the only way to excuse such mental incompetence.

12 million a year supports 4-6 employees?  you are a fucking idiot.  sorry.  I meant Idiot.  with a capital I.

there's really no need to go into it further.

Yobai, I've never been a doomsayer. Actually, I'm an old D&D fan and that's why I play DDO. This is the only MMO I've ever played and don't plan to play any other MMO, if it shuts down. What I wrote were what I feel & think. I really hope this hunch will come out wrong.

you used "hunch" twice.  I had to go play the Quasimodo card.

TBH I stopped reading after the second "hunch."  Smiley

So, since people have been spamming shit for 7 pages....

Do we have a list of those that worked on DDO ( beside the ones Plume de Soleil fed us with ) that were were culled from Turbine's ranks ?

It would be good to know. ( and no don't fucking tell me to look for it, I already googled, and came back with almost nothing to eat )

Yes my avatar is an Hermine eating a Greenland Lemming for brunch.

The profit factor these days is extreme.

I think 4-6 employees would explain a lot!  Grin

Who honestly cares about QA people and LOTRO people getting booted?  only 3 out of 8 of the DDO design/dev positions getting eliminated is hardly a big deal in the grand scheme of things.  how many devs do you really need for a game like DDO with the number of players it supports?

I realy hope that was one of the Vaultis spamming on thelayoff.com:

Sapience (Community Manager), Thursday 02/13/14 04:50:39 UTC

Confirmation
100 full time employees were laid off. I was one of them. They wouldn't even let me take my ban hammer with me when I left.

Undecided

That's a real shame about the Rocking Dead, I liked both those quests.

It doesn't give me warm fuzzies if content guys are laid off, as content is really the thing I will pay for. Just not huge explorer areas and move along a tube kill some mob instances.

Ironically, I would have happily paid for A Study in Sable and the new Cannith quest - interesting quests with decent acting you can get to quickly.

Hopefully those laid off find good opportunities elsewhere. Good luck to them all.

You're so bad at math it's insane. Who's a fucking idiot?

6 figures = 100,000-999,999

-1,000,000 being the absolute highest. I didn't say high 7 figures, or else I would have left off the 6 figure assumption.

X12 months:
1.2 mil to about 5 mil is my guess.

And 6 we'll paid software engineers should pull in at least 100k base, + benefits is probably close to 150-170k/employee.

That's already 500-900k a year, and we haven't gotten to:

Licensing/royalties
Hardware costs
Bandwidth costs
Overhead on facilities and equipment
Marketing
QA, network people, or management.

Or profit.

Pull your head out of your ass before you unload on someone and sound like a dumbass.

I was high at the time of writing the original quote but I stand by it. It's an extremely rough estimation.

I said 6-7 figures a month Kierg, if its 7 a month, that would be over 10mil.

Where are these login numbers? I feel like DDO could be half of Turbines revenue. LOTRO is teh_lame does anyone play it?

What else do they have? AC? That probably makes a small amount over its maintenance cost.

oh sorry thought you said per year....reading fail Sad

Ddo is dead (maintenance) after 21 I'm guessing. Rumors if u22 are probably just to keep money coming in until the wind down. Just a guess of course. Definitely won't be a u23, or if there is it will be small and pitiful

Content disigners that developed shitty content got canned. Wow, such a shocker!

And I'm trying to remember some interesting content after MotU... nope, sorry, drawing a blank here.

It's not that so many devs got canned that's got me thinking about the longterm issue, it's the quote from that WB employee about realignment.

Oh well, just reinstalled NWN 1, that'll hold my D&D interest if DDO goes tits-up.
