The players council was formed to replace the people who  would be laid off with free workers. Overall there was no change in competence, experience, or expectations.

On a real note, wouldn't it be foolish to voluntarily quit when a layoff is coming? You give up whatever remaining hours were available and take a 5-10 week penalty to unemployment. Even if u have your next job lined up in a few weeks it still could be like a 2-3 grand loss for really no reason, assuming you made enough to collect max benefits and expect to miss more than 1 week of full time work.

Also agree that Rainbow and In the Flesh are examples of great quest design.

I don't think he is trolling Ra. I think one way or another Turbine has planned for the potentiality of the IP license not being renewed in 2015, having a slow wind down in Q3/Q4 of 2014 would actually be a pretty smart thing to do.

I bet you we will see +6 Tomes though and more Otto's Boxes.

They don't pay that well. Search salary.com for Turbine. It's more like half of that.

2x salary is a reasonable guess for the burden rate of an employee.

Sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less, but 2x isn't a crazy guess.

Definitely, I don't know how it works on hte other side of the Pond, but here...
If you leave on your own ( démissioner as we say ) you dont have any unemployment benefits.
If you get fired, you have severance pay + unemployment benefits.

If you are aware that layoffs are in the tube ( and honestly in many medium/big companies, it's just a matter of listening to the rumor mill and chatting with colleagues ) while you are looking for another job, you'd be better of waiting to be on the list of the laid off. ( or finding a way to end up on the list, since here it's not a person that gets laid of, but a job that gets redundant... So you can exchange your not redundant job with somebody that has gotten his made redundant [ provided said somebody has the required competences ] )

Here most HR Drones are happy to wait a week or two more to get the guy they want.
( and you can always negociate terms with your soon to be former employer about when you get to be free, since here layoffs have a mandatory 2 to 3 month warning period... [ that starts once the unions have been told and have finished they rearguard fights ] )

The layoffs were sudden. No-one knew they were coming at all until this week, and no-one knew if they'd specifically be laid off until it happened.

One of my former co-workers has given me some amendments to add to my earlier post. DDO didn't just lose Melange, TheRockingDead, and ChainsawGolem.

Also laid off were Piloto and one of DDO's engineers.

About the Engineer:
DDO had three engineers. They're the dedicated and brilliant people who work behind the scenes on DDO's code. Engineers are needed for anything that involves engine code, which is required whenever new functionality is being added with a system.
The engineer we lost was a wonderful person, was passionate about her job, and DDO will be much worse off for the loss. She was also in the middle of working on a huge improvement to Hireling AI as a personal project, so that's unlikely to happen- she was the only engineer who knew how that tangled mess was set up.

About Piloto:
Piloto was, by far, the most senior System Designer DDO had. He'd been working on DDO for something in the neighborhood of 7 years.
Piloto made Greensteel Crafting, Cannith Crafting, and many other systems throughout the game. His hand has touched nearly everything in DDO- he's made items, he's made enhancement trees, you name it, he's worked on it.

With Piloto gone, the remaining System Designers are Vargouille and No-Dice. No-Dice is a specialist: he just works on monsters, monster attacks, behaviors and animations.
That means Vargouille is now The System Designer for DDO.

I really hope DDO can pull through this.

It is always the same old, same old at Turbine. They lay off the people who actually are capable of making a positive contribution, and keep dead weight like Cordo and Tolero.

Really, you have to wonder what idiot makes those kind of decisions. How much revenue does the DDO forums generate anyway? How much revenue does video clips of someone in an owl bear costume generate?  Cool

Family, Country, and the US stock market. Although, in a pinch, any convertible currency or liquid asset will do.

As much as I hate these two fucking idiots it makes great business sense to keep those two douchebags around. Jerry and Tolero seem to have very little in the way of skills. Anyone could probably do the jobs. They were both fans who took jobs with Turbine. They probably work for peanuts as the skill set required for the jobs they hold are shit. A drunken homeless guy off the street could probably take over on a moments notice. I bet the two of them combined equal a real salary. Letting the Fowl Bear and Joffrey Baratheon go would be pink slipping the public face of DDO and it's likely some in-game asshats feel a real connection to them because of forum posts, youtube video's etc.

One of my top 5 favorite quests in the game. A shame they let the guy responsible for it go Sad

6 figures = 100,000-999,999

-1,000,000 being the absolute highest. I didn't say high 7 figures, or else I would have left off the 6 figure assumption.

X12 months:
1.2 mil to about 5 mil is my guess.

first you channel Shade, then Chai.  way to scramble for cover but no one here believes for one second you meant the low end of your range.  you are the only one here stupid enough to fall for that fail.

"blerp I think Turbine makes anywhere from $1 to $1 million a month.  and they pay their employees that range too. derp."

even if you took the MIDPOINT of your range, 500K/mo, you are looking at $6 mill a year.  which more than covers your fantasy Turbine salaries (yeah Turbine devs all have $175K packages LOL) and still leaves ooohhhh about $5MILLION left over?  more than enough for all the other bullshit figures on your list and for Turdbin to still make a buck.

seriously were you high when you crafted this rebuttal?  it's OK.  it's a valid excuse to blame weed.  because if it ain't the chronic, you have proved yourself capable of even more stupid in this post than the last.

what is that mush sloshing around in your skull you call a brain?  oatmeal?  pease porridge cold?  child please!
