U Mad Drow?

you are really that peeved I intentionally misspelled your retarded forum name that you have to cry about it in multiple threads. awesome!  is that your trucker handle in RL or something?  is that why you are so protective of it?

"breaker breaker this is Halfail on your 12, you got your ears on good buddy?  thar's a smokey 'bout a mile upwind of you so ease off on the hammer bro."

does it get stinky in that cab from all the lonely nights filled with nothing but frustrated masturbation, ball sweat, and German scat porn?  I imagine it does.

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, you should know that site is unofficial, and has about the same level of official disgust, as this site does. It's verboten to mention it by name or link to it.

I dont know if HelloWorld=FoS, if they choose to identify themselves, good for them, if not, I'll be greatful for what little they can share.

yeah but that isn't what shadeharkai said.  but he's a clueless mongoloid so no point in analyzing every bit of math fail in his post I suppose.

Hm. Are there contact details for the programmers who were laid off?

It might be a good time to get them job offers.

Just sayin'.

Personally, I think that DDO would be a great investment. Outsource most of the work, then have the old programmers pass on their working knowledge, and have awesome-level programmers improve it.

It would cost a lot, but the potential income would be staggering.

For example, how many people would play Dungeons and Dragons Online: Multiverse (it's a working title), that is well-coded, balanced, bug-free, lag-free, and has all the great components of the game that we love?

If Turbine doesn't anticipate an ROI, do you really think someone else is going to pay for the game AND the same work Turbine doesn't want to?

If it was feasible, cheap, and had any chance of recouping the fees and making more, I am sure Turbine would have did it by now.

I don't think the D&D name is worth shit atm. To an older generation of gamers it has great name recognition but to a newer generation the name recognition is not close to WoW's. Other than in the literary world D&D has probably failed to stay relevant and has in a lot of ways failed to promote it's IP. Shitty fucking movies and other lost causes (like Turbine's shitty bug ridden game w/ shitty customer service) have failed to give D&D the name recognition and prestige that it could have and deserves. GenCon was the original megacon but now it hardly compares to the top tier of Cons. Wizards of the Coast much like WB looks at things in the short run imho rather than trying to build a successful brand. WotC much like Turbine has looted the kingdom with to many editions and turned people off to the hobby with cash grabs. Is it a miniatures game this year or a roleplaying game or both? While most of us love D&D at some point we all have to realize that we are drinking RC (Faygo for you clown faced faggots) and not Pepsi or Coca-Cola.

Layoffs are Turbines nice way of saying you don't have to come to work in the snow & ice.

Glad to see you survived the purge. Perhaps the remaining staff will get a Turbine branded snow shovel as a morale building tool.

You know its funny on the mother boards some people get into major trouble for even giving off a whiff of the vault while others can harp on about it with negative effects to themselves.

SolarDawning wrote on Feb 13th, 2014 at 11:28am:
The layoffs were sudden. No-one knew they were coming at all until this week, and no-one knew if they'd specifically be laid off until it happened.

One of my former co-workers has given me some amendments to add to my earlier post. DDO didn't just lose Melange, TheRockingDead, and ChainsawGolem.

Also laid off were Piloto and one of DDO's engineers.

About the Engineer:
DDO had three engineers. They're the dedicated and brilliant people who work behind the scenes on DDO's code. Engineers are needed for anything that involves engine code, which is required whenever new functionality is being added with a system.
The engineer we lost was a wonderful person, was passionate about her job, and DDO will be much worse off for the loss. She was also in the middle of working on a huge improvement to Hireling AI as a personal project, so that's unlikely to happen- she was the only engineer who knew how that tangled mess was set up.

About Piloto:
Piloto was, by far, the most senior System Designer DDO had. He'd been working on DDO for something in the neighborhood of 7 years.
Piloto made Greensteel Crafting, Cannith Crafting, and many other systems throughout the game. His hand has touched nearly everything in DDO- he's made items, he's made enhancement trees, you name it, he's worked on it.

With Piloto gone, the remaining System Designers are Vargouille and No-Dice. No-Dice is a specialist: he just works on monsters, monster attacks, behaviors and animations.
That means Vargouille is now The System Designer for DDO.

I really hope DDO can pull through this.

it sux, not really looking good.

It's not that so many devs got canned that's got me thinking about the longterm issue, it's the quote from that WB employee about realignment.

Oh well, just reinstalled NWN 1, that'll hold my D&D interest if DDO goes tits-up.

any pw for that still running?

It really doesn't work like that. They could give it to someone as wizardly as John Carmack but it wouldn't matter, working on code that's eight years old and has had dozens if not hundreds of hands on it is just a nightmare unless it was obsessively documented, and I doubt DDO has.

No, HelloWorld is not me. If I were to post something like that, I'd do it under my usual name. No need for subterfuge.
Remember, I'm the king of foot-in-mouth.

One thing I wanted to mention:
Guys, please be kind with regard to that google document that people in this thread have referred to.

That's being administrated by a developer at Carbine Studios in California who is trying to give laid off Turbine friends a place to coordinate, list contact information, and the contact information for recruiters in the industry.

It's certainly not everyone laid off at Turbine- it's only gotten around in certain circles. But the people who are putting their information on it don't deserve to be trolled or abused for doing so.

Thanks.

I don't know who thought it was a good idea to publish the link wide, and I'm sorry they did, but I'm even more saddened by the users I saw purposely defacing the page. I know nothing I can say will make up for their loss, but I hope in this time, they will see that most of us, valued their contribution and wish them all the best.
