Pando media booster - warning

See link for details - essentially the crapware that was Pando has been hijacked to pass a virus - if you never removed this crap from your system when it was no longer used - do so now.

Nice.

I saw the popup about the update a day or two ago...  I closed it down and made a mental note to go uninstall it.

It's on my wife's old gaming computer that's now connected to my TV in the living room, so I don't do much with it except watch netflix or DVD rip.

Important point Pando has ceased it's activity, so Pando Media Booster is an abandonware.

It's soon to be replaced by the crapware called akamai netsession interface.

If you weren't warned about that specific piece of shit you are now.

It spawns two instances of itself and they STAY even after you left DDO. eating 10 to 20 MB of RAM and 1/2% cpu.

If you are not happy with that you can hunt the Lammania thread about it and tell Turbine that they need to avoid putting it on live.

If you don't do it Naow it will be in U21.

You have been warned, it was your Friendly Player Council Member Warning of the Day.
Thanks to listening.

Will this be added as part of an already installed instance of DDO being updated in the same way as awesomium process, or as a downloading "tool" like pando?

It's more like awesomium, unlike pando once the game is installed you can't just remove it.

If I remember right and things haven't changed this akai crap starts on pc boot up and stays running even when ddo client is closed.

Turbine is so stupid adding this shit to the client.

On the plus side, if you leave the Akamai installed, it makes the duping "bug" much easier to replicate. Not that I now have a backpack full of Otto stones on Lammanina or anything...

It will be automatically installed, in the background, at the time of the next update.

Yup. Except that it is going to get reinstalled and restarted ( behind the splash screen ) as soon as you start the Launcher.

No peace will be had... since if it can't find the exe it reinstalls and spawns itself automagically at launcher initialization.

The only workaround is to use an alternate launcher once you have eradicated the crapware.

There's a thread here in the Vault about it and another one on the official forum about that piece of crapware. They contain all the information you want and/or need.

So does that mean this:

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/435076-Installing-Akamai-Netsession-In...

is a complete lie? Or is he talking about U22 (if we ever get another update)?

Then what's the fucking point of including it in DDO anyway?
I thought this was a fucking video game, not an all inclusive malware/spyware package.

No warning, no I Agree, nothing.

They like to push their luck, don't they. Well, I was thinking about coming back in a few months but fuck that if they're forcing more bloatware in post-install. At least Pando you could rid yourself of after installing.

It's like they want to commit commercial suicide with DDO and just be done with it, the way things are going lately.

Hmm, what would happen if you leave the file there, but revoked the akamai executable's rights to execute in Local Policy?

You can just avoid it... once you have installed the game use Pylotro ( there's a thread here with everything you need ), it works fine.... Once the crapware hits live that's probably what I'm going to use.
