I cant actually remember... how much did they charge us for Shadowfall?

Some of the dungeons arent bad, though the explorer areas are a huge waste of time. An MMO releasing an xpac and not having a raid has to be one of the dumbest things you could do...

Any chance that Turbine would get me as an evil genius mastermind?

I expect to get rewarded, though. If I can bring the game up to popular once more, fire Cordovan.

Doesn't exactly fit into a one word answer for me, but happy to answer the question.
  • Named Loot was poorly implemented (way too much power at heroic levels, uninspiring at epic levels)
  • Random loot changes were one of the worst things to ever happen to DDO
  • Wheloon Prison (explorer) could have been fun, but instant DA and lag made it suck
  • Wheloon quests (other than Mirror) suck
  • Purple haze effect is annoying (turning off post-processing helps though)
  • Storm horn Mountains is the most visual stunning explorer area in the game (I actually run all of the explorer points in the Storm horns every life)
  • Storm horn quests are actually somewhat fun
  • What goes up is one of my favorite quests (except for the purple haze), and should have been a Raid

Overall the content released would have been okay (Wheloon sucks but Stormhorn's are good) as a typical update, but was not good enough to be called an expansion

As for epic 3BC, So far we are only discussing high-level concepts, and those look promising.  As always though, the devil is in the details.

Maj, I know you cant say anything, so I will say it.

DDO is going into maint mode. I have been saying it for months, since i heard the word. Why anyone still invests cash into this game is beyond me... fool and his money and all that.

Lol. Everytime you type, all you can say is "we had it planned" . Every single fucking time. And we really know it's a big fat lie. If you had everything planned out, the game wouldn't be doing so bad at the moment.

It's getting kinda boring to read your "yup, the game is gonna change with Rowan, we got this, trust me" / "everything was planned" / "layoffs were planned, calm your tits down".

I have worked in QA. A good QA manager can easily read which way things swing by what his boss cares about that he reports on and what is a non-issue. A QA Manager is very in tune with resource allocation. A good one can read the signs. I think majmal is pretty smart and I think he probably knows more than you think.

Majmal is planning to take over Turbine, then WB, then ultimately, the world.

And he plans to do so using astral shards and the Ladder Bug of Destiny (R).

Just exactly how is still a mystery, but we're counting on him to make it look awesome.

    Probably.
    But please continue.

I am planning to take over the world. But it is a little slower than I would like.

Ah a new engine. I wish. I spend my after hours on Crytek and it is so..so..pretty. I have a bit of a dev crush on it.

Care to elaborate why you feel that way?
Is it because he is the only dev to come on here and make pithy comments?

Nooo dammit - epic Vale - EPIC VALE!!!

The point has been talked of, as well as 3BC choice...
The Council doesn't make the choices, we just give feedback to things we are asked.

Now since last time epicing a pack has been talked in the open the quasi unanimous answer had been Vale, there's some relative chances that it might eventually see the light.

I know Smiley But I just think the Vale is a much better choice than 3BC for epicness. I also think they've missed out on a massive opportunity with the crafting. Instead of all these other systems they have brought in, and the one to arrive shortly, I just think they should have extended greensteel to include epic levels.

But.. I guess that's just my personal pet peeve  Wink

Well, I do concur with you, and the worst of it is that Vale is actually Epic... it's just not active.
( old school epic though )

So it would just need a bit of tweaking to be put in line with today's version of Epic...
And Exquisite Greensteel would rock. ( that's the name for the Epic version of Greensteel )

That was my first thought, but what if Rowan was brought in as a hatchet man from the get go and Maj was in on it (because he's got to help choose who in his department gets the axe)?

That certainly casts the "2013 was a very good year" in a cynical light - good compared to how 2014 is going to be - but it makes it all, strictly speaking, true.

That might strain future relationships with co-workers, but in an environment where everybody worries they might be next, it could still work. The Romans had a great phrase "Oderint dum metuant" or something like that, "Let them hate, so long as they fear".

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

If Rowan was responsible for bringing Ed Greenwood and Haunted Halls to DDO the net impact seems positive.

I can imagine Haunted Halls will attract some interest and traffic from long term tabletop players, some portion of whom may stay around. A few returns of vets who went elsewhere too. Depends on marketing how well marketing does as to the ultimate benefit.

If the player council is actually listened to, that will be a positive as well. That as much as anything will help determine his legacy.

And...DDO is a game. It is entertainment. Putting money into it isn't an investment. If paying money into DDO helps you have fun then spend. If paying doesn't help you have more fun then don't. It isn't an investment ffs.

Investment is not always used for exact financial meaning.  You can invest in love, etc.
People invest their time and money in the game while expecting returns such as entertainment and good times.
If the return does not occur as expected, people get frustrated.
Normally there is no need to explain this to anyone here in the vault.
But you are a fanboi so...

Thanks for re-iterating what I just said. If paying money into DDO helps you have fun then spend. If paying doesn't help you have more fun then don't. What doesn't make sense to me is why someone would say I am not going to spend money on DDO now because 5 years from now it might not exist. You pay $10 per month for current/short-term entertainment value ....I don't see how it is reasonable to expect my my February 2014 $10 "investment" to reap big returns 5 years from now. I don't say I am not going to spend $15 to go watch a movie because they might not create a sequel....If I think I'll enjoy the movie I'll spend $15, If I don't think I'll enjoy the movie I'll give it a pass. Investment is not the right word....
