Ok. Let's look at someone with a dmg modifer of 60. That's pretty high. But, it'll do.

Sources of dmg modifer are stength, wep ENH, gear with dmg mods, certain spells, and ship buff

PINION

Base: 4.5[2d6]=31.5avg
+
DMG Modifer: 60
+
Crits:20% of the time it crits for X5 which means (31.5base+60dmgmod+10seeker)X5=507.5-31.5+60=X.2(20% of the time)=83.2 avg dmg per hit
+
Wailing (3d6 sonic) =10.5 avg dmg per hit


TOTAL =31.5+60+83.2+10.5=185.2 avg dmg per hit assuming 0% fortification.




WYRM BOW

Base: 6.5[1d8]=29.25
+
Dmg Modifier 64(wep enh is 4 higher on Wyrm bow than Pinion)
+
Crits 10% of the time for X5 which means (29.25base+64dmgmod+10seeker)X5=516.25-base29.25+64dmgmod=423.0X.1=42.3 avg dmg per hit added to base

+
1st Degree Burns (applies vulnerability, but I'm not adding that even though it's good) 15 avg FIRE dmg
+
Paralyzing Fear 5% no save (no dmg, but this is what I would add on this tier)
+
Mortal fear 36 avg dmg (NOT counting the proc to half a mobs HPS)
+
Acid Augment for dmg (why not, there's extra slots) 5.5 dmg avg

TOTAL=29.25+64+42.3+15+36+5.5=192.05avg dmg per hit




Conclusion: Wyrm bow includes a 3.8% Increase in avg damage over Pinion NOT COUNTING the paralyze proc, the cuts mobs hps in half proc, OR the colorless slot.



Downside, you now have to slot seeker 10 and/or ranged alacrity.



EDITTING With IMP MA + Dance +x5 Crit multi which places them much closer together.

Don't forget to multiply pinion damage by 1.2 since I'm too damn lazy to alacrity myself any other way.

So yeah the ranged alacrity on pinion is the same bonus type as haste. Just fyi, Meat. Not sure if that was clear from my post. You don't really need to "slot" it.

Wouldn't the expanded crit range have a much larger impact when you factor in adrenaline/slaying/snipershot? not to mention with the base die being 2d6 instead of 1d8 you are getting far more extra damage out of things like improved martial arts, dance of flowers, PBS and combat archery.

Some fair points. But, I don't think Imp MA OR Dance with flowers works with ranged. I'm almost positive IMP MA doesn't. Dance might or might not. It either did and then didn't or visa versa.

Because any increase in attack speed for ranged doesn't take into consideration the "drawing" of the bow, they bumped haste up to 22% faster attack rate, rather than the 15% you get for melee.

As far as I know, the only passive way to increase ranged damage is through the AA set out of ToD.

Bigger crit multiplyer matters, but bigger crit range not so much because you're pretty much critting on a 2-20 on adrenaline.  Will look aat the specific numbers when I get home.
