edit: my bad, i was thinking of soloing, but with the right group handholding him to the 16/2/2 Shiradi build he'll be ok. Because new players are going to be in Shiradi 5 with 3 twists and still be "new players".

Most of the points in the OP are true(ish).  They're just not the whole story.  They're not at all realistic for a new player (like Fighter being good - it is good, but I wouldn't suggest one for a new player who doesn't have any resources), but there's a lot of truth in there. 

Is anyone going to say that Sorcerer and Wizard aren't at the top of the heap for 95%+ of the content in DDO?  They weren't always, but they were for quite a bit of the game's history and the shift went back and forth between CC and Instakill and Firewall and burst DPS, but even without mana pots, they're fantastic and *with* mana pots, they're just plain silly to the point where I don't understand how the Monk hate can keep showing up on the forums.

I do think that the OP in that thread is bad advice for his target audience, but even just a little bit of rephrasing would make most of it spot on.  Also, the snootch inspired first paragraph was AMAZING trollage.

For new players, meaning just signed up for a (freebie) account and only has a rudimentary idea (a friend threw some tips at him/her, hopefully read through ddowiki some, and has a general idea about gameplay) - I would have suggest rolling up a cleric.

Clerics - though an awesome caster class - are played mostly as a support role. It teaches you how to work with others as a team. It teaches (hopefully) how to play as a divine offensive caster (my personal favourite gamestyle for clerics). If that someone survives playing a cleric - he/she is set to play the game with any class.

Same. Immediately rerolled into a sorcerer. Ended up going back as a wizard pale master later, and I loved the survivability\utility a lot.

Ditto!! My first character was a wizard. Of course I grabbed magic missiles as my first spell (I have a PnP background). A level 1 newb wizard casting mm with no gear is a very, very sad thing. I deleted that character before I even got to level 2 I think. Next time I tried an arcane it was a Sorc.

Heh.  My first arcane was a wizard specifically created to use magic missiles.  But it was mainly to help (our) level 3-4 characters kill the end boss in stormcleave.
