Holy crap, this looks exactly like the Hunter Post from Stronghold 2. And this game looks like shit, but probably will be better than DDO.

I predict the number of character renders you see in that picture is the number of players it will have after 3 months.

I have heard nothing but negative stuff on this MMO and I mean negative as in nightmarish bad stick a red hot poker in multiple cavities bad.

Sad - could have been cool. I love Pathfinder for PnP.

You would think starting at this late date any MMO would look soooooo much better then this and have so much better buzz.  Wonder if MMO is in a death spiral.

My guild (well the ones who still live in the same area) play Pathfinder every Friday night, and we were really excited about this, but our enthusiasm has been cooling. They are going with a subscription only model, so not easy to give a casual trial, and the whole game world is PvP without consent required.

But despite these shortcomings it bears watching, it's super low budget so if it does well we could see a plethora of smaller specialty MMOs.

What I'm really hoping is this does well enough to give rise to a MMO with the business model of Path of Exile, the user generated content of Neverwinter, and the rules of D&D 3.5 OGL. That would ROCK!

Oh, and the head of Pathfinder Online is awesome, he has a blog post every 2 weeks and constantly talks with players on the forums, both Fanbois and critics. He explains what they are doing and why, and he alters course when presented with compelling arguments. If Turdbine could get somebody like that DDO would be a great game, and would have more than a dwindling population of long time players who are just too heavily invested to move on.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Sadly the OGL prevents anyone from making a game on the 3.5 rule system, PFO will not be based on their own ruleset.

Having said that, I signed up for the Kickstarter just for the tabletop material that came with it. Wink

This is not uncommon at all if you run a lot of betas.  At first head producer people and devs are all on the forums, doing interviews and just generally chatty to build the hype machine.  Give it a few months beyond closed beta release and you will never see most of those people again.

Unless they pay for a license. Just like Turbine and every other company does.

You don't make an AAA game and buy a license such as D&D for $1M. Just the license certainly costs already more than that.

Years ago WotC publically said it would not offer any new IP licenses for the 3.5/OGL system.  Anyone currently using it can apply for renewal but they have been very public about not issuing new ones.

.. especially to their largest competitor.

Paizo: Hello kind sir, would you like some free money?

WotC: What do I have to do?

Paizo: Nothing really, just let us put your abandoned rules that we already publish into our new video game and we'll give you a dump truck full of money.

WotC: No thank you, I just really don't have any business sense at all. I'm going to go shop for new IP to acquire and ram into the ground now. kthxbyefuck

Years ago, they were still trying to sell 4th ed to the PnP mob. ( and failing at it )
For that they had to kill the previous editions, so such a behavior was something normal ( and expected ).

Nowaday, since they started to reprint 3.5 books, and don't seem to be ready to release a 5th ed in print at the same time as releasing it in a video game of some kind ), they might allow new 3.5 licenses.

Their (WotC) whole business model from when they acquired to now reads like a megalomaniacs failing African nation.

The kind of people that promise everything and then fuck a person in the ass and not even have the goddamn common courtesy to give a reach-around

Let me make it easier for you then. Both Paizo and Goblinworks have went on record saying this game will not be based on the Pathfinder RPG ruleset. You are welcome to follow the Goblinworks blog, sadly I get emails every cpl weeks from them due to the kickstarter.
