It comes from some tests made with the PC... And it comes from Cordovan's own test.
During the tests, after a few fails and a few more experimentation on his part he came up with that reason for some of the failures.
Honestly I have no proof. All my failures were caused by the fact that I was trying to copy a character with the same name, from the same server twice.
Though I probably could try it, I still have characters not copied on Lamannia. It's not that hard to try to reproduce :
- pick two chars
- copy one to Lamannia.
- on live transfer an item from that character to a second one
- copy second char to Lamannia
- wait and see.
Note : you can copy characters while being logged on them on live.
This will probably not be true for transfer once they have it working.
Get off it. The PC still hasn't done shit except choose between two shitty ass monsters for a landscape area.
This was a known thing for hell of a lot longer than the PC's existence. I can remember that being the reasoning for at least the last three years.
It isn't tracked item ID's, so much as, each item made has a unique identifier. When you make a 'duped item' you are still making new items each with an identifier.
When you do anything with an item, except transfer via a banking interface or trade window, possibly even the mail, it makes a copy.
Upgrade it, slot it, whatever. The game destroys the old item completely while making a new one with a new identity number.
Servers do version check Identity numbers on items, but that is as far as it goes.
