Shipping updates looks good. Barely changing 4 quests is easy work and make them look good as they can claim to have "used existing software infrastructure to full design and implement new content seamlessly into a working system."

The point of course being that it is likely beyond fucking easy to do.

You seem to have forgotten Turbine's uncontrollable urge to shit on previous dev's work while introducing completely new systems. Using existing software infrastructure is a shocking achievement.

No. I have not forgot. Do note where I said it was fuck easy And cheap as fuck to do.  The point is they can spin it on a resume like what I posted...and not have to have done any work really to get that update shipped

While this may be true (I really have no idea, but let's go ahead and say it's even easier that we suspect), Turbine's track record is of not ever doing it.

Point in case, e3bc. Perhaps one of the lowest effort updates, with serious staff reductions, and yet they still couldn't stop themselves from shitting on the old guild ships and introducing a wholly new system.

Cool. After you killed off all your older raids. You're going to need about 5 more at least. Then there will be almost something to do at cap. Make sure the raid levels are 30+. Same as Thunderholme raids blocking out players under 24/25. Loot levels ml 27/28

fuck you. Werewolves.... Put in something new. You have an entire collection of 40 years of D&D monsters. Have any of you ever even glanced over a few of these? Ever?

It's getting duped.

Mmmkay. Howabout Epic Korthos with Seawolf Sahuagin.

So four somewhat redone quests epiced out with same maps and a raid where the abbot doesnt have a few more hitpoints added. So does this mean more along the lines of same old same old, like 3 Barrel? Come on turbine, quite scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

how does that reconcile with the whole epify old content philosophy?

They just reuse the landscape... new monsters, new mechanisms, new code.

The landscape is not code... it's fully contained in the client_map_1, client_map_2, client_mesh and client surface dat files.
If we had somebody good at coding look at those files and look at what tools are available for AC... I'm sure he could extract the whole map of the game ( including all those secret secret hush hush special rooms and areas that never made it to live except by accident and all the beyond the walls stuff ).

That's the whole point in reusing old landscape : it's cheap, it's easy, and it doesn't require a dungeon designer... just a few devs that know how to put things in a dungeon.

That's because they want to leave something for posterity... and the resume...
Consider this :
completely rebuilt and expanded the guild housing system from it's original concept to make it more player friendly.

As for new monsters, that require animator time, and a texture guy ... and well it's expensive... faster to reuse existing monsters...

For the file format there's a thread somewhere here in General detailing a lot of information about their content and organization.

hence werewolves in Eberron and Yuan-ti in 3BC!  yayyyyy.

if they have to re-use shit to cut costs, how about re-using some boss skins and animations to create epic trash mobs.

fighting a room full of doomspheres or pit fiends would be a lot more challenging and less boring than another pack of werewolves.

As I said to a Kobold Turned Rat... reusing monster and making look them something else is easy.

You grab the Kobold Skin Texture, you put it in photoshop, you use the sliders to transform the green into a sickly yellow/brown and voila you have a new monster you can call a Gark. No new animation required. ( and trust me I did try this too... when I tried to make a six legged black panther and failed )
Been There, Done That, Still have the files from Neverwinter Nights tucked somewhere. 5 minutes work in Photoshop ( or The Gimp )
But it seems this crop of dev is impervious to everything ( except when the whole PC goes down on an idea with No, Hell No !!! then they take notice... Since it's not easy to have us all agree on something, when we do, it's noticed )

I still must say I like the idea of epic quest consisting of room full of dragons or pit fiends instead of rats.
Of course, trash with normal CR, not some CR 100 purples, that can be held, danced and instakilled (I want to see dragon or pitfiend or marilith dance).

Having those boss mobs in mini form for trash sounds like a really entertaining idea. It would be hilarious to watch a bunch of mini-Horo's charging you. Of course they should be typical epic trash CR, saves, hp, name color, etc.

But your point about dancing brings up one big reason that they probably wouldn't do it: They'd have to create the images of the mobs dancing. To date, I don't think there's been a Maralith in the game that dances. So unless they just cycles animations that they use for them roaring or taunting, it would require time, skill, and effort.

Strange that while Stand And Be Judged was working on bosses, there were many that had stunned/helpless animations. Maybe it was only the bosses that had counterparts as non named mobs. Bosses such as either Dracolich and Velah didnt have animations.

A thread about the producers letter and you post a pic that says "World's Biggest Hag" in the background.

I'd like to think it was intentional, but should I give you that much credit?  Wink

No, but do councils full of "fag hags" surround "hags" or 'fags"?
