Chats not working

A friend just came back to the game.  Unfortunately he can't get guild/party chats to work - we have removed and re-added him, but no change.  He also can't get the party audio chats to work.

He's running windows xp or windows 7.

Has anyone seen any fixes for this type of problem?

maybe a stupid suggestion, but i know there is some button somewhere to restore settings to normal. I would try that first.

In options there is a reset all chat check box, try that.

Firewall settings or the userpreferences.ini needs to be checked (see if a UserSpecifiedPort is set to something besides 9000). The chat uses different ports than the game. I think it was ports 9000-9015 and 2900-2913 UDP that needs to be open for chat.

When I travelled and was on a heavily used connection, I would "access" the local router and change the QOS to make 80/443 traffic the highest priority. This left the other things such as chat and voice lagging, but I didn't care as I could still play the game.
