I think DDO starts you off too weak. It takes loneliness or OCD to keep playing unless you've got a hook up with some gear.
Why do you say this Revaulting?
I find the early levels to be the most fun sometimes.
The content is nicely balanced for any class to get through, and as your skill improves, you can just move from Normal to Elite difficulty?
It's the later levels where you get character power, but by then the devs have run out of ideas to challenge us, and hence the big of HP and artificial constraints that are applied to try to make it challenging again.
Invariably it just becomes boring.

Once you get up and running though, too much gear will jade you. Only then is it a good idea to hold off on dupping and such.
Yeah, I like to keep a couple of things to work toward.
The drop rate of the old lvl 20 epic items is just stupid. Most are useless now, but those that are good should drop more frequently.
I have most of what I need now, so I just potter around with deathwyrm and fire peak helping guildies, and HH to get some item drops that I can sell.
