Every time I join a raid with aLiclan (on Thelanis), they bitch about creature companions ("you're causing lag", "you're killing the hamster in my video card", "I'm a little bitch Q_Q", etc). So I would like to get a parrot just to pull out and annoy them during their raids.

Technically they are correct. Turbine had to change pet coding quite a bit due to resource and ai issues. While not as bad of an issue today, pets do add some strain to turbines backend.

The sounds are terrible.  And every damn vendor on the airship seems to have one, indicating that Turbine thinks it's 'cute and clever'.

not the cosmetic pets... they are just a few more polygons and a texture treated by our graphic cards... They have no impact on the backend... now Arti Dogs and Druid Wolves... they are another whole kind of pet and they do have an impact.

This is so fucking true I laughed when I read it. One of these pileons actually made us reform a chrono just because one guy had a companion, of course half the party didn't recall and kept going.

I still haven't seen a parrot ingame, don't know anyone who has it Sad

Turbine policy - glitches and poor coding resulting in interference of your game play or enjoyment will be ignored.  Glitches or poor coding on the developers side that at all benefit your game play or enjoyment will result in your character being banned and/or items from your inventory deleted.  Please report all bugs via our bug report...when it works.

I understand your position on this, but I remember chatter about this subject when turbine first released pets, circa2009. There were dev posts about the issue in which they stated such. At one time we could trick the AI into agro'ing pets, using pets at tanks, and pets interrupting LOS. Changes were made to reduce the traffic pets sent to all clients. Again, this was stated in dev posts at the time.

Sadly, turbine's great forum migration debacle lost so many posts from history.

Now, it could be I am wrong, but I was under the understanding that cosmetic pet coding was the same base coding used to create arti and dru pets. I could not find the old forum posts and, to be honest, don't feel like spending the time to wade through turbines forum mistake.

It's not the case anymore... The way they fixed the issues with the cosmetic pets seems to have been by creating a whole set of client side scripts for them so that they are not generating traffic with the server anymore... In the begining you couldn't walk on top of a C-Pet without making it move ( it behaved like a normal pet ) nowadays if you run up a C-Pet it just stand there and gets trampled.
