I'll share my input if it helps get closer to a viable solution:

I tried the OP's method, going so far as to do this similar to saga stones: 

Disconnected

Dragged the TR reset onto the TR reset in my TR cache

Then drug it around my inventory, swapping into empty spaces, empty tabs, etc.

Dragged it into the TR cache on top of the other reset again, doing this a couple of times until I got red latency.

It didn't reset my timer, but it *did* join the stacks together inside of my TR cache.  If there could be a way to actually get the timer to go before it gets moved that'd be good... hopefully this helps further the cause. 

If nothing else, I guess it's a way to put items back if there's an existing identical item already there... though that might not be that useful.

Weirdly...  only until the stack is at full size -1, in my experience.  I've been throwing major mnemonics into one of my TR caches since that toon started doing epic lives, and it has gone up to a maximum of 99  :/

there's probably a way to destroy an item and also dupe it into the TR cache thus giving you a copy.

My source that said everything is 100% if you do it right and proper is now changing her mind. Updated view: still works in the main, practice but be prepared for them to vanish for no apparent reason (even when doing everything precisely the same).

Almost tempted me to log in, get a box, burn it as many times as possible and log off again. Permaban... I lost some money. Three month ban? Well, I'm not playing anyway so who gives a fuck.

Edit: Meant tempted, not tempts. You'd have to be even more stupid than I am to do that when someone just told you their foolproof method started failing, eh.
