PC Members - can you get an API answer?

I can't imagine they'll answer this other than the usual "we'll look into it," but...

Can somebody with access to an actual developer get some sort of response about whether the API will ever return?  Bonus points if you get a specific answer, like:
  • it's too hard
  • it's too hard for us
  • people will use it to look up other people and reject them from groups
  • not a priority
  • need hardware
  • need bandwidth

I have half a dozen tools (mostly along the lines of "where that fucking sword?" or "who's closest to hitting a 100-favour level?") I'd love to have actually work without manually updating stuff.  Just want to know if I should even bother, or it'll likely never happen.

In one of Cordovan's streams, about a month or so ago, he mentioned that they likely won't bring it back any time soon.  It was basically a "not a priority" type of answer.  He may have mentioned some "technical issues" with it in general, as well with trying to bring it back.  I can't recall his exact words, as I was starting to doze off and just wanted to snag some turbine points.

<- Not a PC member, just passing on what I recall from his answer.

Yeah, that's what he and Mal said in the thread.  "Not a priority" is an answer I don't like, but can understand.  "Technical issues" is just bullshit covering up for something else.

I belive at one point it was something to do with how poorly it was written that caused it to die. I belive it was also said it would not be coming back anytime in the near future, though the character copy thingy also went down with myddo however copy is back up and working. So its fixable, they are just too lazy to fix?

Turbine logic.

Can fix tool, improve aspects of the game.

Didn't do it to be able to spend more time making a cosmetic pet be able to talk and schitz.

Last time I heard about it the answer was :

It's not a priority, the hardware died, and needs to be replaced.
Hardware is expensive for a 9 year old game, so there's almost no chance it's going to be brought back.

But I can ask anyway.

Edit Asked and got an answer :
Dev that answered don't know the reason why it's down, but knows that there is no plans to revive it.

Take it with the relevant grain of salt.

Eh?   Hardware?  The API requires separate hardware?
Wouldn't it piggyback off one of the game servers, the web servers or just be a standalone box somewhere?
And how expensive is a Commodore 64 to replace?
Huh

Anyone with a current API key still has the same access they had before. Cordovan and Maj both mentioned they don't plan on doing further work on the system any time soon. At this time they aren't able to issue new keys either as the person/tool used to generate them is no longer available.

A standalone box is separate hardware.   Smiley  And that's the way to do it.  But yeah, the comparative costs are negligible.  "The computer you want is always 3,000 dollars."  What if they assumed a million people were hitting it at any given second?  Fast disk, fat pipe.  You're still only looking lower five digits.  That's why it's the bullshit answer.

That's not my understanding based on speaking with someone who had a key.  Is that extrapolation of their words, or it is actually working [still|again]?

You have just laid down the basic principle of Turbinomics:  "Any money we fail to spend on things the customer wants, is the fault of the customer".
