In games development there would be an expectation that you understand the game enough to design, test and balance content or make informed system changes. I believe that some game houses have regular formal times for devs to play and interact (in work hours). You can imagine that if you're working on a game all day, going home to play it at night wouldn't be that exciting..... Understanding the game would require some play, and anecdotal evidence is that they do play, but probably not enough to actually understand what players dislike.

	I thought the whole premise of the OP is stupid. Who gives a fuck what Severlin thinks? What Turbine needs is a cleansing of the old guard who think they're doing good for the game to people who actually do good for the game.
