This is the source material if you are unfamiliar with P&P:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complete_Arcane#Warlock
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warlock_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)#Dungeons_.26_Dragons...

HP=D6
Saves=Good Will, crappy Fort and Reflex
Alignment=Any Chaotic
Skill points: 2+int/level
Proficiencies: Simple Weapons and Light Armor
BAB: 3/4
Casting Stat: Charisma (kind of. Cha determines DCs, but is not actually required to cast, so it is painlessly dumped if you stick to invocations that don't allow saves.)

Features:
Eldritch Blast - Spell-Like-Ability (Should be enhanced by appropriate metas by DDO precedent. (Not P&P precedent)) Ranged single target blast deals d6/2 levels untyped damage. Can be enhanced by 1 blast shape invocation and 1 blast essence invocation (see below).
Damage reduction - #/cold iron, scales with level.
Energy Resistance - (Like Fvs)
Fiendish Resilience - Fast healing.
Deceive Item - Awesomeness at UMD. Artificer level or better.

Invocations: spell like abilities that can be used at will. Some modify your eldritch blast and the rest simulate arcane spells but have an extra effect and/or evil flavor. They come in 4 different strengths ("levels") and you only get 12 of them by warlock level 20 (hopefully DDO will up this to at least 1 per level.) I will post specific ones from P&P if I can find a text to cleanly copy paste, but you can expect to have invocations that resemble blur, ddoor, dispel, charm, animate dead, true seeing, wall of fire, shadow walk, invisibilty and others.

Also the essence invocations add a energy type and special effect to eldritch blast: the acid one bypasses spell resistance, the cold one gives a dex debuff if they fail a fort save. (There are many others.)

Then there are the blast shapes, which include channeling through melee, cone, ray, chain, line, and emanation (think energy burst.)

I'm expecting:

  • Bugged
  • OP
  • Paid
  • Unfinished Enhancements
  • Access to Eldritch Knight Tree.

So you want to know about an exploit?

  • Bugged Of course
  • OP Only at first, then nerfed after most have bought it
  • Paid Of course, though they may implement an unattainable favor reward unlock
  • Unfinished Enhancements Of course
  • Access to Eldritch Knight Tree. Disagree. If warlocks are compatible with those arcane mechanics then they are doing it wrong to the point of why bother. One tree will almost certainly be calle "Hellfire Warlock"

While playing with it in never, can say warlocks were quite powerful.
In pen also, they had way to be super strong.
Now how will modifications be done in real action combat and how will metas affect that might be a major point.

Thing is, it will be a entirely new unique never before implemented in ddo mechanic.

And we all know how good they are at fucking up stuff like that and how many years it takes them to even realize something is bugged

Metas will have to apply. SLAs typically do in DDO, and it's hard to see the nuking damage being competitive without them.

I'm thinking that the shapes and essences will each have a seperate mutually exclusive toggle (like archer's focus vs. IPS and PA vs. Precision. They COULD have each one be a different "spell" with seperate cooldowns to cycle thru instead of just spamming the eldritch blast button...but I think that would feel to much like a regular arcane.

They could make a lot of the buff invocations just innate buffs since they are 24 hour duration and infinite casting anyway.

I'm thinking Force Savant, mostly.

Didn't 3.5 warlocks have some sort of cursing-type SLA, or am I thinking of something else?

Sounds interesting enough.  Would fo' sho' TR my Completionist and give it whirl but would likely want a couple more caster lives and EPLS before/if it hits live.

Maybe the mechanics of the class will pave the way for Psionics which I am a FREAK for.

IKR? they are not the only bitches losing their shit over it either some Aragorn wannabees have fallen off the deep end, one gem from the producer thread:

Why not instead attend to the original bloody ranged classes that are still awaiting a update pass? God! the Ranger was supposed to be next, and the mechanic and Artificer are going to have to wait in underpowered limbo while you guys play with a NEW CLASS? come on! sure it is always funner and easier to start something brand new, but it's more important to take care of the classes that have been waiting for so long. Seriously? do you expect people to just sit back while you make a new ranged class after they had to spend all last year playing 2nd fiddle to the assorted monchers and chuckers, bards throwers, who all got buffed well beyond them?

Seriously? how can anyone there think this is needed or a GOOD IDEA? Doesn't anyone think this stuff through before pushing forward? seriously, the ranger, mechanic, and artificer, write that down so you don't forget Turbine.

Oh no! a Whole new class to master! poor ranger! Whatever shall the poster do?

Fuckers are hopeless.

My guess is this is intended as a profit driver and it will coincide with the ranger pass.

The recycled epics dont bring in much cash so they'll be looking at ways to monetise what they've learnt working on free enhancement passes.

Also, implementing a new original class in a 9year old game probably looks good on a c.v.

If they did it with a Ranger pass that would be excellent, makes a ton of sense.

And your right about the revenue, the bard/SWF addition did pump the numbers a fair bit. So a new class good or not would bring in money.

Thunderholm would have brought in a shit-load more money if so many working Dupes weren't there waiting for it, that gutted any interest in farming and repetition. Who the fuck wants to grind out the obscene amount of mats when they are flooding guilds and markets. So after some fun, maybe running the raids 20 for the top end stuff parties stopped.

Typical Turbine they don't see how their own QA failure/absence caused the Thunderholm failure, and are now just taking the cheaper but short-sighted tactic of epic rehash that as you point out doesn't drive revenue.

Finally, no doubt about the CV padding fucker.
